ls6 heads?

Was thinking about buying ls6 heads instead of messing with gears and air intake. I found a pair of ls6 heads on ebay for 700 bucks and others were going for around 2 to 3grand. What kind of increase in power should I see from these and are they worth the cash. Would I also have to do any frame work or suspension? Thanks alot guys

Re: ls6 heads?

frame work or suspension for new heads??

that's kindda like asking if you need to change shoes because you got a haircut.

on a bolt on car, you'd probably pick up 10hp with the LS6 heads (unported). not really worth the hassle. since you'll be spending $250 on gaskets and head bolts, on top of the $700 for the heads.

now if you wanted/needed them for a core to get some ported LS6 heads for a H/C setup...that's different.

there are many other mods worht doing, for less money and better gains, than just swapping heads

Dude, one thing at a time... Seems as though your knowledge of cars is quite limited, so let me put it simply:

The first thing you want to do to increase horsepower of your car is bolt-ons. Exhaust, Lid or CAI, Headers, etc. If your car is an automatic, the next thing I'd do would be to get a converter and some gears.

Then if you want, start thinking about more major stuff like cam, ported heads, stroker motor, etc.

Re: ls6 heads?

Teke said, a full bolt-on car with yeild a 10 rwhp gain.... which isnt that much. the dude after teke is saying that on a non bolt-on car will yeild more

i figured it woulde be the other way around considering with a bolton car you are making more power, then again i am no expert.

if you dont know what the boltons are to a saech for "basic boltons" and you should get a result and more

i re-read Kraest's post, he doesn't mention how much power stock LS6 heads would be worth.

he just says that there are other mods to be done to a car before you start messing with heads.

but you are right, LS6 heads on a bone stock car wouldn't yield much of anything. put them on a bolt on car and you'll see small gains, since the rest of the car is opened up for more air. but still this is only gonna be worth 10-15hp i would say.

you gotta remember that ported heads only pick up 30-50hp on cammed motors. so stock LS6 heads on stock cam wouldn't yield much.

to the original poster:

go through and read the first 10 pages of this forum, educate yourself with some of the common basic mods and what they are for. use the search function. keep a list of things you don't understand so you can search for info.

if you still are unsure of something. then ask.

just about every "i'm just getting started and i want more performance" question has been asked multiple times (sometimes in the same day ).

I'm with you. With the increased compression and flow, I doubt you'd see any more than 20rwhp increase, which sucks for the amount of money you have to spend to do it.
