LT1/LS1 swap
#2
k member, motor, maybe trans (if manual), most of the wiring harness (if not all), computer. plus all the extra stuff thats different. radiator? coolant overflow, abs and brake master? , AC stuff, all the accessories, etc etc. Ive not looked under the hood of an lt1 in a while to see what else. probably even the guage cluster too.
I would say, that unless you got a heck of a deal on a wrecked 98+ car, and could sell your drivetrain its not even close to worth it.
plus the engine swapped car isn't going to worth much. IE, will always raise questions about the reason for the swap. wrecked? how well the work was done? etc.
with how cheap ls1 cars can be had, I'd sell yours and buy a 98+
AND if all your looking at is the performance improvement of the ls platform (stock), unless your really lookinjg to build up a stout platform; a heads-cam lt1 would be much cheaper to do. and would likely outrun a stockish ls1 quite easily.

awesome, thanks for the insight. i wasn't sure on if it would be just as easy to swap out the engine for an ls1 or just stick with the lt1. ya that's alot of money to put into my car just for an engine swap, i figured there would be some things that had to be changed but since it's all that i am just gonna stick with the lt.

nah spend 1200 bucks on a supercharger kit or getting a cam installed and you won't know it is the same engine! Or list yours for sell really high and if it sells buy a LS1 car. Thats what I did. It took me 5 months to sell my V6 car for 2.5k and put that into buying a LS powered car.
Since a camaro is a camaro, and the designs are SO simailar between the 4th gens, if anything the 98+looks better, why swap in an engine unless you already have the donor motor and all the parts lying around?

In your opinion.
This picture sums up that statement to me..
But yeah like said, It's not a cheap swap. I'm in the process of doing it still though. But I picked up a 6 liter for 400 bucks, and most other parts from friends/friends of friends for damn near nothing.
