I would go with the LS1, plus you are not going to find a LT1 with low miles if that matters to you, but if money is a factor go with the LT1 JUST DON'T GET A FORD

I owned a 1994 Z28 for 102,000 miles until about two months ago when I sold it and bought a 2002 Z28. Love them both. Miss the Medium Quasar Blue paint (beautiful). The nose on the LT1s also had more character. But, Oh!, the LS1 engine! Sheer nirvana. To drive both the cars, the LS1 makes the LT1 feel truckish, especially past 4-5,000 RPMs. It breaths beautifully, and it is DEFINATELY more powerful. Go for a '98 LS1, can't be that much more expensive than a '97. If you do go for an LT1, though, don't worry, still a great car and a beast of an engine, especially for torque off the line. Either way, you're buying an instant classic, a modern musclecar.

There is an immaculate LS1 car for in the 13k range over in for sale forum. It is a 1998 Z28 Appearance Package.. it has only 43k-44k miles I think. It has c5 rims, lowered a bit.. and comes with hooker longtubes Its a real beautiful car. Give it a look!

heres my .02
I had a 93 Z M6 for 7 years and 130000 miles(bought it used) I had no problems with that car at all save for the starter....3 times replaced. That was the only thing I ever really touched with the car repair wise that wasnt normal wear. Everything lasted forever..brakes..clutch..rearend......PAINT. It was truly an awesome car in that sense. Powerwise it was great too....I know I had some kind of factory freak but Im sure theres more out there. With homemade Hooker Tuned Flow exhaust/SLP CAI/Air Foil/street tires and a bad plug wire it ran 14.02@101 MPH spinning all the way thru fist and second with 2.3 60 foot. That was almost 4 years ago with 100k on the clock. When I totalled it I had 175k on it with a few more mods and ID say it ran much stronger then! (never made it back to the track with that car)
I just bought a 99Z and so far Im very impressed. It has 80k on it and I picked it up for 9000....loaded. Its a very clean car and when the snow melts Ill have to find out what itll do.
If your buyin a 4th Gen you cant really go wrong if the car was takin care of.....
phew..Im out of breath

They are both good platforms, but the lt1 will always throw you back much harder. And there really isn't much of a difference in power. It will only take a set of LT's and a cai to be just as fast as an ls1. I have a few buddies with cammed ls1's and we are all pretty close. I have a pretty ****ty combo though.
