Re: Which MAF is the best?

LOL I'm sorry you can't believe it, but aftermarket MAF's DO increase power in some applications. try this. My boy's 99t/a M6, it's white, grey leather, uses remington tires, etcetcetc since details are all you care about. He dynod 298.8rwhp and 327.3 rwtq stock. With lid/k&n and the magnaflow cat-back he got up to 314.2 rwhp and 334.6 rwtq. Bought the z06 MAF kit, installed it, a month later, dyno day. 322rwhp, 334.4 rwtq. These results have been repeated time and again with my friends. He lost 2/10 rwtq. Whoopty doo. No, I don't have dyno sheets scanned, nor do I have ACCESS to a scanner. Believe if you will, or don't. That's your choice.

Re: Which MAF is the best?

Ummmm....we do care about details but what does it matter that his car is white and he has grey leather seats.

Now bout the MAF, ur money can be better spent in other places, even if it does give u power, and if its like the somebody else said, top end, it's not gonna be much and ur not up there too often i don't think. From what i know, the stock MAF is good for 600 hp, no need to change it unless ur puttin out numbers like that. Do what u want though. Stock is the best for now

no maf ends no larger maf, just granatelli is the only one you will see a difference from. It is stock size.

Just either get your ported to take the screen out to smooth out air flow or buy the MAF ends that are the same size as stock just has the screen removed its like 50 bucks if that. I had a 5 hp gain with that on the dyno which isn't bad for 50 bucks.

Re: Which MAF is the best?

The point of the topic is, is that aftermarket MAF's are useless in almost every stock bottom end scenario. On the other hand, if for some odd reson I had to buy one, the stock Zo6 MAF conversion is the way to go. It has a GM program and is closley related to the LS-1 stuff, so if anything, it is easier to tune and would be much closer than some of these crap shoot programs aftermarket companies stick in there. IMO, the Granatelli is the worst. In no way does it have any advantage over any other aftermarket MAF, and it costs twice as much. You'd see twice the gains with a set of Longtubes for the same price.

I run 576rwhp/590rwtq with a stock MAF and ported/descreened ends. The aftermarket MAFs are more trouble than they are worth...much like the K&N filters for our cars.

I'm sure you could, but they would be uncoated. Hedman and pacesetter both sell relativly cheap uncoated headers. I thought Granatelli Maf's were 300+ anyway?

You have to be careful with the ported and descreened stock MAF too. I had one I got from a guy that gained hp on the dyno from it, but on my car it caused very lean conditions and detonation around 4600 RPM.

Re: Which MAF is the best?

If you NEED one, like pushing big HP, then the Z06 one is.

If not, most aftermarket ones are a waste. The computer will relearn the new AF ratio so there is essentially NO gain in a new MAF. To the guy that said his friend gained HP with his new MAF a month later on the dyno, how many miles did he put on the car? Otherwise it wouldnt relearn yet and would show the increase he had.

On WS6.com, the guy gained a few ponies from it on his car, only to loose them a coule days later after driving a few hundred miles and the computer relearning the new AF ratio. All the aftermarket ones do for a near stock car is "trick" the PCM into a better more power efficient AF ratio. Then the PCM relearns it.

The stock MAF are good well past stock power levels, and the best MAF set up to go with would be the Z06 if you have your mind set on it. There are better power mods out there for the money though.

Re: Which MAF is the best?

the granatelli maf is the only one that does not trick the computer so it doesn't relearn anything, power stays no matter how many miles you put on the car. Granatelli mafs are 300+ but I got mine off ebay brand new for 270 free shipping.
You can get longtubes uncoated for 300 but not shipped and there a bitch to install. MAF takes about 2 min. Also you need a y-pipe with longtubes. Not saying at all take a MAF over long tubes I'm not stupid, just saying they're not as usless as most people think.

Re: Which MAF is the best?

I've seen where a guy was on the dyno at Fastchips for a tune and they ran him with the Granatelli, then a stock MAF and he picked up HP.

As stated before, most of the good tuners won't mess with it if you aren't running the stock MAF. All the one's I've talked to will flat tell people to put the stocker back on. That alone should tell you something.

But do as you wish. Keep Granatelli in business.

that has been my experience with three different tuners as well, burnout04. i'd spend the $300 on a good tune- especially if you are going to use nitrous.

well, aftermarket MAF's work for some people, and they're a curse to others.
