Yup. I bought a Flowtech 3" cutout on a Wednesday from Thunder Racing. I knew I would get it Thursday and since I was off on Friday, I could have it welded in during the day when the shop was open (and less busy than a Saturday)
I was waiting on the GP to finish on the McCord Power Plate, and it didn't arrive for 2 more weeks. So I drove around with the cutout open for 2 weeks.
When the power plate arrived, I installed it in the garage that night after work.
So yes ... you can do that. If you go with the McCord plate, you can download a 1:1 drawing and show it to the welder so y'all can figure out what angle to mount the cutout. I would assume you can get a drawing from QTP, but I'm not sure.
As for placement ... on the I-pipe, directly under the rear passenger seat. There's a natural indention in the floorpan that you can use to help shield the electric plate. Plus, there are several grommets right there that you can use to run the wiring into the cabin.
Enjoy it! I drive with mine open all the time unless I've got my wife in the car with me. She doesn't care for it quite that loud.
Oh ... and I picked up 13 RWHP just by opening the cutout between runs on the Dynojet at Hypertech. Both runs were done with the coolant temp at 180*.

Now i'm confused does the block off plate come withthe cut out or do I have to get that made? after looking at previous posts about cut outs i have a good idea on where it should go after the cat on the i pipe under the passenger seat. It will be open when driving around town and at the track but on long drives i'm gunna keep it closed. It will help when i get the electric because if i see a cop around town i can flip the switch to close it.
