Mods without voiding drivetrain warranty
I should be an owner of a 98 Z28 soon (w/ 63k miles - see sig). Apparently the car already has a lid, so that's taken care of. I will most likely get the 3 year/45k mile drivetrain warrenty (from dealership) to stay on the safe side of life.
I know I can probably get away with a catback. I'll take care of the CAGS if it still has it too (easily reversable). What else could I do that would pass visual or could be reversed easily if I had to take it in for warrenty work? I was thinking a cutout would be a probably be a no go. The LS6 intake has no provision for the EGR so that's probably out too. What about gears though? A set of 3.73's or 4.10's wouldn't be noticeable by looking, but the reconfigured PCM for the speedo would probably raise a few eyebrows if they look for that.
Any advice?
Edit - I should be safe with weld in SFC's right?

Re: Mods without voiding drivetrain warranty
I was wondering about that too. I got a 98 z28m6 with 44k on it stock. I did the lid mod recently, and before that free cold air, tb-bypass and egr tube protusion cut off.
I'm kind in the same frame of thought as you on it as I plan to get the gm warranty, but am wondering about the mods I have lined up as well?
I think we can get away with the sfc's, cat-back, suspension stuff. The ls6 intake can be "modded" to have egr as well so that wouldn't be too much of a problem.

I was actually thinking about an LS6 intake (w/ egr). I know they have them with and without the egr provision. W/o removing the intake, nobody should be able to tell if I have the LS1 or LS6 intake right? Although, I could already have one on the car and not know it.

Would the dealership sell me a drivetrain warranty if something's going to break?
Hell no. They've probably fixed everything so they know nothing will go wrong within the warranty's time period. Pushing this at the time of sale is where the dealership tries to make more money off of you. They tried it with me (and probably other guys here who bought used) and my drivetrain has been perfect for the 52,000 miles I've had it. Dealerships have a reputation to keep and if something goes wrong with the car, they know the buyer will tell people where they bought it from and that'll give them a bad name for selling unreliable used cars.
You should be safe with weld-in SFCs, especially if they're black. That's what I have on my car and you can't even see they're there.

You could also get away with a ported TB and an under-drive pully.
Nothing they can see, and won't change a whole lot (but should still be worth a solid 20 hp.

Re: Mods without voiding drivetrain warranty
well about the ls6 intake thing... i was looking at prices for them on slp and the one with the egr slot is 100 dollars more... is it possible to just drill your own holes and make a hole in an ls6 intake taht isnt made for an egr?
