moser 12 bolt??? or is it???
i ordered a 12 bolt moser rear end and i just picked it up from their shop. i drove it for a little bit then went home and wanted to take a look at my "12" bolt rear end. hmmm funny it only had 10 bolts on it!!! now my question is here, is it at all possible to get moser 12 bolt internals, in a 10 bolt casing??? and, if it is possible, wouldnt it be just as flimsy as a stock rear end??? i mean isnt that what makes it "stronger", by having the 12 bolt housing??? please need some feedback on this. asap, my car had been in this guys shop for 6 weeks. and i dont feel like puting it back into his shop and waiting so long. HELP!!!

Ouch that sucks that your car was in the shop for 6 weeks and the mechanic did not even install your 12 bolt..
1. From what I hear the Moser 12 bolt is based off of GM's 12 Bolt Rear end from the 60, 70's and 80's cars and trucks.. Just the reason why Moser is the company making them is because GM does not make anything for 12 Bolts. Also 12 Bolt Carriers and Ring and Pinions will not fit into a 10 bolt housing. Also from my experience 10 bolt axles will not even fit in to a 12 bolt Carrier or vice versa.. Hell I even tried to put a 10 Bolt Carrier w/ 3.08 ring and pinion into my trucks 12 bolt rear, and my axles would not slide into the carrier... Trucks and Cars rear ends are almost the same except Rear End's axle tubes are narrower compared to trucks...
2. Having 2 more bolts does not make it stronger.. Just comparing a 10 bolt Rear end versus a 12 bolt rear end, is the fact that 12 bolt rear end have bigger carrier, Ring Gear and Pinion.. 12 bolts are just heavier duty compared to a 10 Bolt GM rear end.
There were some 10 bolts made by GM for their 1 ton Pickups that will make a 12 bolt seem weak.. Then there are some 10 bolt rears made by Dana that are almost bullet proof... What I would do is go back to the shop and say where is my 12 bolt rear end ?? And I would like to know what the hell is going on.. Did you pay them after picking up your car ??
