Re: Need to clean LS1?

The only real issue that I seem to be worried about is the whole electronics ordeal. But from what I have read no one has had any major issues from spraying their engines with either high or low pressure hoses.

My main issues really is my heads!! they are just dirty can be and on a F-body they aren't the easiest part to clean!!

yeah dont worry about the electronics unless you do something stupid that you know is going to cause a problem. Its not dificult to aim water away from the electronics, and to avoid lint, i use those cheap microfiber towels from autozone.

Another vote for pressure wash here. Never had a problem with it. Just cover up any of the would-be problem areas with plastic bags, and spray away.

85,673 miles and looks brand new. I wash it every month with soapy water and a sponge. Hose it off with little water pressure and towel dry to get rid of water spots.

Re: Need to clean LS1?

1st) spray the underhood down with 'Simple Green'
2nd) crank up car and hose it off with your garden hose
3) close the hood, and take it for a spin around the block to dry, or use a towel, or let it just sit and air dry.

That is what I have always done and mines pretty clean.

Re: Need to clean LS1?

I wash my engine once a year (It's a 2000 w/62,000 Miles)

Drive it around to get it good and hot.

Spray the whole thing down with (2) cans of Gunk Foamy Engine Cleaner.

Wait 5 minutes.

Hit it real good with a yard hose until you can't see anymore Gunk.

Close the hood and drive it around for 10 minutes.

Shut the car off and open the hood and spray anything that is a spring or electrical connector with WD40

Although this year after performing the above, my serpentine belt is squeeling like a pig - I wonder if it's related

Re: Need to clean LS1?

What about the coil packs. I am guessing just avoid spraying directly on them?

Re: Need to clean LS1?

I alway's use a good BRAKE cleaner and spray down the dirty spot's and than use a part's cleaning brush on the more built up dirt. Be carefull NOT to use CARB cleaner. Also getting the engine hot than hosing it off with a garden hose with the engine running works well, just don't flood the electronic's...
