My buddy got a 1998 Z28 about a year ago. The car was previously a leased car and was beat on pretty bad( didn't figure that out till after he bought it ). Well, he went out one day, and got on it a little bit. After that it was making all kinds of racket. Well, after 2 months the dealer has finally pulled the car apart. One of the crank bearings is completely destroyed along with a few pistons.

Now the warranty company says they will replace it with a used motor, but it will only have warranty for 90 days. Past that, the warranty company is saying they will not cover the engine in any way. They bought a 3 year extended warranty with the car.

Can the warranty company do that? I mean, they say they won't cover ANY part of the motor after 90 days. That just doesn't sound right to me.

Sounds damn fishy to me, I would read the agreement over very very well, maybe get the advice of a lawyer as it may come to that. Good luck.

Well on friday I bought a 2002 M-6 along with the extra 3 year warranty so I got a 72 month. The warranty manual says the whole engine is covered unless it was raced. I would speak with the manager and does your friend have the warranty manual? If so it gives a phone No. if you have any issues with your dealer. Hell call up GM's and raise hell.

I recently purchased my 99 Z28 RS with the 3 year extended warranty and My engine is completely covered( I have the Millenium Platnum Plan), unless I install a aftermarket part that causes a failure, for example, if i install or mod the engine, say..the cam, after I install a new cam and something goes wrong, if the dealer determines that the cam caused the failure of whatever you brought it in for, they will not warranty the service. Basically You can install any aftermarket part you want, but if something happens, them dealer will most likely want to be Asses and say that the aftermarket part you installed caused it and "screw you" =) but also it may really be the case. SO....... You better tell your friend that the dealer better warranty his engine!
