Need some good advice

I'm in the process of transplanting an LS1/T56 into a 3rd Generation RX7. My problem being my admittedly limited knowledge of the LS1 and its specific upgrades. I have been advised by others that I would be best off going with one of the older, 94-97 I believe, T56's due to the different gear ratios. My RX7 has a 4.10 rear gear, so unless someone says otherwise I'll assume that that particular transmission choice is correct....?

Here's where my true problems begin/lie:

Given the option how would you, the more experienced people out there, proceed??

Option #1: Brand New Crate LS1 w/LS6 Intake
It has also been suggested to me that if I go this route, the most cost effective upgraded initially would be a set of stock Z06 exhaust manifolds, and the car will be running straight pipes (read: no cats)

Option #2: A slightly used LS1 motor that can be bought a good deal cheaper, freeing up a good deal more money toward better heads, cam, etc.
My question here lies in what are the better/cost effective heads, cam, headers, etc. for the LS1??

Option #3: Feel free to use your imaginations here.

Assuming a limited budget of $6000 for motor/tranny and "whatever" upgrades the combo will allow, how would you spend your money??

I apologize for such academic questions, but I have to start somewhere.

only the 93 t-56 has higher numarical ratios... however the 93-97's have different input shafts otherwise the 94-02's are the same, more or less..

for simplicity just use one from a 98+

Why is the 98+ going to be simpler? Just ease of finding one?

Any suggestions to the upgrade path? First $500, $1000, $2000?

The '93-'97 T56 uses a pull style clutch.

The '98+ T56 uses a push style clutch.

It would be much easier (simpler) to use a '98+ T56 with an LS1.

Good deal. Sounds like I have plenty of info on the tranny situation. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding the logical upgrade path for the LS1?? LS6 headers, heads, cam, etc.?? The only limitation on the headers is that they must be "block hugger" style headers to clear all the steering/suspension components on the rx7. Anyone?
