New motor: oil pressure low at hot idle
#16
I'm not saying to substitute your experience for Google results, but at least entertain the laws of physics. The results will vary with gearing and engine combination.
OK, so back on topic

Back on topic, then
Oil pressure has alot to do with clearances on new parts and new "non-stock" setups, oiling passages, pump pressure, and if the pump has been ported/shimmed.
Don't get too hung-up on idle pressure... what really matters is flow. If you have a ported LS6 pump or something of the sort, I'm sure you're fine. My 408 idles at around 25-30 psi.

What should the main bearing clearance be using Clevite H's? My friend who had his motor prepped at the same machine shop was also told his clearance was .0025" on the rods and mains. He's not having any pressure problems but he has a 408, different pump , lifters, etc.
Another shop where I bought parts from indicate that .0025 is too loose for an aluminum block, opting for .0018 cold and letting it expand to ~.0023-.0025. However, it appears aftermarket bearings are looser than Chevy's by about .007.
