when it comes to oil, Patman is the one to talk to. i have read many of his posts on ls1.com and he knows his stuff. i believe he does oil analysis for a living or something like that

what do you think of the fram filter? i read some other posts saying it was a pos, but that was after i installed it

Stay away from Fram! It's built with terrible internals, such as cardboard for endcaps! I like the K&Ns, Bosch Premium and for a low cost filter I like the Supertech from Walmart (which is made by the same guys who make the Bosch, K&N and Mobil 1 filters) The Mobil 1 filters are good but I believe they are a tad restrictive for hard driving. Champion Labs (who makes them) even says that their Mobil 1 filters are designed for high efficiency while the K&Ns are better for "sporting applications"

I don't do oil analysis for a living (I'm in the publishing business) I just do a lot of oil analysis testing of my own with the 4 cars in my family, plus I read a lot of oil analysis reports on the www.bobistheoilguy.com message board, where I am one of the admins.

I'm about to embark on a long term oil test where I won't drain my oil until the analysis says it needs to be done. I will sample it every 3k to test it. I expect to go over 10k in both cars. My wife's Honda will be running 5w30 Royal Purple for the test while my Formula will be running Schaeffer Supreme 10w30 blend.

My local auto store has the K&N, but I don't think i've ever seen the bosch. I'm assuming the bosch would probably be cheaper, but how much do they both run, and if the bosch is cheaper, where can I find it?

Bosch filters are only about $5 or $6 (compared to about $10 or more for the K&N) and I believe Autozone has them. If not, Pepboys might.

Thanks man, I went out today and bought the stuff to change my oil, and was kind of in a hurry and the nearest autozone is like 20 - 30 mins away, so I went to the local auto store, and they didn't have the K&N in stock in my size, so I ended up getting a pureone cause that was the only other one other than purolator and the delco, is the pureone a good filter?

The PureONE is a good filter in terms of efficiency but I personally think it is too restrictive for a high performance application.

Performance wise, is it better than the delco? Cause like I said, i'll do this a little more in advance the next time and make sure I get the K&N or bosch, but just curious if i'm at least doin a little better than the stock, cause the only other options in the place were the delco, purolator (which I assumed the pureone would be better), or fram (I'd kill myself before I bought fram, they suck ***!). Thanks for all the help man

Because the AC Delco only stops particles in the 25-30 micron range it will more than likely outflow the PureONE. Although without actual data on it's flow ratings it's hard to say for sure.

I do know that a PureONE filter is only good for a flow of about 3-5GPM while the K&N filters are in the 12-16GPM range! Finding out these flow specs for other filters is very hard though, most oil filter makers don't give out this data unfortunately.

Damnit, I would have been better off with the delco than probably!!! Whatever, I guess it won't hurt nothin till it gets changed again. Again, thanks.

It won't hurt anything for just one oil change.

I just emailed one of my contacts at AC Delco to try and find out the flow rating on their filters.
