Oil Change for LS1s

Oil Change for LS1s
Anyone who runs a Synth oil such as Mobil 1; do you guys ask the dealer to put that in, or do you change your oil yourselves? If you do change it yourself, do you use a floor jack for the car, since I haven't ever found any ramps which will fit under the air dam. Lastly, for those of you who change the oil in your cars which are still under warranty, will Chevy honor the warranty if something goes wrong with the oil? I've heard that sometimes the warranty is contingent on you being able to prove that the car was serviced regularly. Thanks in advance.

First of all about the ramp issue. Cut a 2X4 to make 2 planks about a foot long each. Lay them in front of the tires and drive up. Once the front tires are on the boards, slide the ramps up to the ends of the boards. You should have enough clearance now.
Ramps are much safer and easier to use. I use 4X4's instead of 2X4's. If you use 4X4's use 2 side by side under each tire so they don't try to slide sideways.
Feel free to change the oil yourself. You should keep track of maintenance and repairs in a file folder anyways. But don't be afraid to do maintenance yourself.
Chevy will try not to cover your warranty either way.

The GM warranty can only require that you keep the receipts when you buy the oil and filter. Also a log of oil changes. I just slip a small floor jack behind the drivers front wheel and jack under the rear lower A-frame mounting bolt. But I have been looking at those Wal-Mart plastic ramps too. Later>>>>>>

I made a point of asking the dealership if it's OK to do my own maintenance, and they said it was, just as long as I kept records of it (which I have been).
As far as using ramps or a jack?? I've always used a set of ramps that I got ~3 years ago from Canadian Tire (equivalent to ??? in the U.S.). They're made from recycled rubber (I think ) so they weigh a ton, but they don't skid or slide like steel ramps do. Because of the GFX on my Z28 though, I have to lay a couple 2x4's in front of the tires to get the car started on the ramps, but that's no big deal.
HTH.
