Post Ok, my Rev Limiter left made me feel like a smuck? How far can i raise it?

This Newer riced eclipse pulls next to me. He had one of those large tachs on the dash which meant he would probabily race. There was a driver and passanger. I reved up and they both didnt look to excited about running me... The light went green, i took off normal hopeing he would take off fast. He didnt. But right at 25mph he gunned it. Keep in mind i have a A4 tranny and sometimes manually shift it. At 25mph i downshifted to 1st and pulled an instant car length, stayed on it until i was almost at red line then shifted second and BAM BAM BAM i hit my rev limiter and it sounded like a gun fireing.. Until i was able to let the engine sink to lower RPMs, i pretty much had to coast most of the race. When i finially got my **** back together he turned off. Now if this would have been a car with any ***** whatsoever i easily could have lost. I just need a little more leeway for my rev limiter.... This was the second case where this happend. Sometimes, i can manually shift all the way up to triple digits w/o hitting the limiter... I just need a little more room to stretch my LS1s legs out...

I have an HPP3, what should i raise the limiter to w/o risking messing anything up...
And something else, what degrees should i set my fans to come on at? Thats something else i havent messed with.

Why don't you just drop it into Drive, out of OD, and then just floor it...let the tranny do its job?

When you shift it yourself it can't shift as smoothly as it normally would. Put in D if you expect to race and leave it be. If you double press the gas pedal to the floor it knows you WANT TO GO! and it shifts accordingly, then HANG ON!

They're right. It has been discussed on here before, these cars run better and faster when left in Drive.

Leave it in "D"

As for the rev limit .. Hypertech set mine at 6,400 ... so that's where I'm leaving it.

Your wasting time letting it down shift, if you race from 25 or so.

Put it in 2nd, when you floor it wait until it gets over 3500rpm's and just put it back in drive.

Then you won't have to worry about hitting the rev-limiter.

well, it's just cool how fast and smooth they are, i mean you can have up to 90 before you even know it and it's so effortless. but I love my M6 because you can put it in neutraul and coast for a mile and they are a lot of fun because you can feel the power right in your hand and it's are more chalagning to drive.

double pressing i think just means flooring it. you know how it says in the manual push pedal halfway downshift once, press all the way to down shift twice, that's what i'm assuming.

Press it halfway down then let off then press it to the floor. It's called a kickdown and it will drop to the lowest gear possible (that is safely below redline) and accelerate will full power and shift at a higher range. The ECM sees this as you wanting to HAUL *** basically. Some older cars the 1/2 - full worked via a switch under the gas pedal, now the ECM just reads from the TPS. When you slowly press the pedal to the floor it does not run the engine as agressively as when you press 1/2 to 3/4, let off, then floor it (Should be done quickly).

Why in the hell would you manually shift an auto???

If you want to shift gears get a 6 speed.
