Make sure your car is in tip-top running shape before modding. Tuned up, Trans Fluid Filter Change / Flush, Rear Diff Fluid Change, ect...

The cheapest LID you can get is the best because there's absolutely no difference in performance between one and the other. That and a Exhaust system. If you don't mind spending alot then true duals with an X-Pipe will grant you the most power and sound; however, Magnaflow Catback has gotten good comments by many on this board and it is reasonably cheap and will still give you a noticable power gain.

There's other things like Cam, Stall Converter, Gears, and even tires which will help your time considerably but I'm not sure if you'll have enough purchasing power...

- aftermarket lid: ~$90
- coated LT headers: ~$375
- coated Y-pipe: ~$125
- subframe connectors: ~$200

There ya go, $800 spent .

Check out some of this site's Supporting Vendors to verify prices .

if you really wanted a CAI setup, the best out there is the SSRA unit. functions as a true cai at slower speeds and more of a ram air at highway speeds.

but for the most part your SS hood is a cai...although it isn't much of a ram air.

your first thing will definatly be the lid...regardless of whether you get the cai or not.

next best mod will be headers and an LS6 intake

if it's a manual...a good shifter makes a WORLD of difference in how the car feels.

We'd recomend some subframe connectors, headers, lid, and possibly catback if you want... Are you installing it all youself? Let us know if you have any questions or need some price quotes.....

Thanks

I'd say a lid, headers, y pipe, and if there is any left over money shoot for some subframe connectors

x2 plus a cutout. Although, I don't know what emissions are like in MA. You might have to get a catted y-pipe and forego the SFC's.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone!!! keep the ideas coming!! How much horse power would I get by the headers getting done? And i have a magnaflow catback on it now and im getting the cut out soon. Im hearing most people saying LID and headers.... sorry if this is dumb but whats a LID? LOL I feel bad asking but i have no idea lol and the SS hood BARELY has air flow into at all. really nothing at all. So would CAI be good to get and help out alot?

but mainly whats the horse power number that these things would get me??

A lid is the thing that covers your air filter and sits in front of the MAF sensor. The factor air box lid has silencers and is somewhat restrictive. Cars with aftermarket lids, headers and catbacks typically dyno in the 330~340rwhp range. But, every car and every dyno is different. Either way, I'd say you're looking at close to 390hp at the flywheel with those parts vs. the factory advertised 315hp.

For example - Lid

They're dyno proven for at least ~5 - 7 rwhp . And they will only help with future mods to the engine.

Headers are pretty much a solid ~25 HP gain over stock (you should see ~15 - 20 rwhp gains at a minimum).

Electronic 3" cutout

And not sure about the CAI yet? Any thoughts on which one for my SS? Since the "ram air" hood doesnt really do anything at all.....

and i guess im getting headers also lol - which kind should i get??

THANKS AGAIN!!!

Just so you know, you probably won't see much benefit from a "CAI" kit for an LS1 like you would for other cars (even LT1s). The "ram air" kits available will only really work when you're moving pretty fast already . IMO, it's money better spent in other places.

As far as headers go, check on Custom SSI's site (the one I linked above) ... they sell Pacesetters, which are arguably one of the best "budget" headers available for our cars, for only $375, which is the lowest I've seen advertised anywhere (unless you can get someone else to price-match them). What headers you decide to get really depend on budget though ... which is apparently the basis of this entire thread, right???

Don't spend your money on an CAI on the car yet.. maybe after everything else is done... One of our customer cars put down 350rwhp with just pacesetter LT's, SLP lid and cutout and some tuning... I'd highly recomend those mods and maybe some SFC's as said above... don't spend the money on the CAI yet.. or ever for that matter :-D

I also vote for headers and subframe connectors. Unless it's an automatic, in which case I change my vote to convertor, shift-kit and gears.

Super Sucker Ram Air is good for 20-40 degree intake air temperatures which keeps the computer from pulling timing allowing higher performance levels during the summer heat and 10 horsepower at speed.
I can and have proven a tenth and 1 mph at the track.
