doesn't anyone READ anymore? I HAVE THE 160 STAT AND THE FAN SWITCH!!

I think you need to read the post above yours, the guy who says the t-stat is a waste of money because the fans will keep the temp where you want it without a stat...

But that is the "indicated" temp from his dummy guage. He really needs to scan for the real temp. to see if he has a problem.

If you have air trapped in there at the sensor, then your temps will read high. I know, mine just read 260!!, but the engine did not feel hot at all. It was normal temp. I took off the cap, and took off the TB hose, held it in the air, and filled the radiator up. So problems since then.

Keep your eyes on the fluid level. & fill accordingly. BTW, I have the 160 & my temp reads 181 according to ATAP. Good luck.

I have read all the posts above. Either your gauge is malfunctioning, somebody sold you the wrong thermostat or your cooling system is malfunctioning. Your gauge should come down significantly with the 160 verses stock thermostat.

I have checked my engine temperatures on Auto Tap and with my 160 stat the indicated temperature is 181-185. After a pass in this heat maybe 187.

I have also put my thermostat in a pot of water and it starts to crack open right at 160. Full open about 172. Must be some difference in my Auto Tap reading and my thermometer. I think the thermometer is correct as I have checked it against other thermometers with same indicated readings.

My guess is you were sold the wrong thermostat. Put your engine on Auto Tap or try the stat in a pot of hot water with an ac temperature gauge and find out for sure before doing anything else.

You say that you read all the posts above. Then you must think that I am a liar or just plain stupid.

THE GUAGES IN THE 1999-2002 F-BODYS DO NOT REPORT THE ACTUAL TEMPERATURE. THIS IS A FACT. UNTIL HE READS THE ACTUAL TEMP WITH AUTOTAP HE SHOULDN'T DO ANYTHING.

There can you see that?

I don't care if you are President Bush you had no right to become obnoxious from my post. I said nothing about your being a liar or stupid nor did I say anything about a particular model's temperature gauge.

if you had actualy read the posts above, and could comprehend them, you would have seen that it was stated the 98 guage works as would be expected from a temp guage, where the 99 and up guage doesnt.

since from your sig, we know you have a 98, and from his he has a 99, logic (which is obviously not your strong point) would tell us that your guage WILL drop with a lower thermostat, while his will not.

while it is possible his guage is malfunctioning, or he was sold the wrong stat, the fact that the guage isnt showing a temp drop means absolutely nothing.

as AL said, he needs to use an alternate method of determining temperature before assuming somethign is wrong. As I stated, my guage didnt move with the 160 stat. Yet auto-tap scans show that temp was considerably lower.
