P0135/p0300

I just got finished installing my Pacsetter LT's. I got the car fired back up after installing a diablo tune and went for a short ride.(2 Minutes) As I got back home I got a flashing SES. I ran a diagnostics and pulled P0135 and P0300.

I should mention these few things also. Against my better thinking I didn't remove the spark plugs during the install and broke one. I replaced it and also replaced a broken spark plug wire. One of my heat shields got thrown away by my wife helpfully cleaning the shop for me. (The only one I left laying on the ground) and I had a wire touching an EGR hook-up on the passenger side header. I also haven't gotten the rear-O2's deleted yet.

With all of the above mentioned, I'm thinking/hoping I was grounding out a spark plug wire on the headers. Which caused my miss-fire but I wanted to run it by some one else and see if I'm on the right track.

I ordered a Texas-Speed true duals set-up and I'm waiting to put it on before I start car again and see if re-routing the spark plug wire keeps the code from coming back. Thoughts?

Check the extension harnesses and get those rear-o2s deleted.

Misfire could be caused by something actually misfiring or not. It's hard to tell across the internet

I should have it totally back together by the end of the weekend and I'll post something either way-I didn't think about the O2 etensions. Thanks

There's way too many things that can cause P0300, don't worry about the heat shields, none of my plugs have them anymore Did you extend your own harness? Make sure all the plug wires are clicked on the sparkplug, run it at night and see if you have any arcing.

No I bought extensions. I looked them over but I didn't check voltage or anything on them before I plugged them in. I'm going to double check the plug wires at night but I'm going to wait until I get the rest of the exhaust on and do the rear O2 delete. At some point my neighbors are probably going to be unhappy about my open headers...not to mention my wife doesn't like it when I make the kids cry. Who'd have thought that an LS-1 open headers would wake a 3 year old up from a nap? I mean the car was in the garage and he was up stairs. Opps!

I'll add my comments here before I start a new thread.

I got my exhaust installed today. Does anyone else have an A4 car with this exhaust? The only pictures I've seen are of M6 cars with after market crossmembers. I had to remove the crossmember behind the transmission to mount the system. SO now I have Pacesetter LT's with no CATS and a TSP Rumbler X-Pipe Tue Dual System...AND A BUNCH OF PROBLEMS!!!

I've got to be up a 3AM to go re-qualify on my weapons for a deployment next month so I'm not messing with it anymore tonight and this thing may sit until I get home. I went for a drive and this is what I have: P0140, P0160 and P0300.

The first two I know what they are. I have a custom tune from Diablo Sports and it is supposed to delete the rear O2's. I reinstalled the tune to make sure I did it correctly and I'll let the car run tomorrow to see if it comes back. But I'm more worried about the random misfire. At idle speed in gear the car shakes a lot. It's not unbearable but not right. At throttle other than WOT there is a skip. I don't think it's a dead miss but somethings not making full contact. At WOT it doesn't appear to be skipping but is WEAK! I checked my plug wires and I'm pretty sure I've got good connections. I can't put my hands on number 4 very well. I used a pry bar and gently pressed on it. I reached under the headers and tugged on it and it didn't come off but the wire broke during the header install. It's got a wire from my truck(6.0L Silverado) on it now. I didn't think this is the problem because the misfire wouldn't be that random. Plus I've moved that wire around since the first time I got the random misfire code. I'm at a loss. I can't find any exhaust leaks. The skip is very mild. I can't feel it at idle or hear it for that matter. I can feel it in the gas pedal everywhere but idle and WOT. I may be missing it at idle due to the shaking though.

Coil Packs maybe?

Anybody know a good tuner/mechanic anywhere near Brunswick, GA. I have a truck and a trailer so if I have to drive up to S.C. or down into the Jacksonville area I'm willing. Plus I need to do a dyno tune eventually so it would be good to know where I can go once I get this gremlin worked out.

I think what I referred to as the cross member behind the transmission is actually the tunnel brace...

There are 2 things I hate to admit. 1st: I need help. 2nd: I can't figure this out.

I finally called the old man and told him what was happening. He owns a few shops and is late model car smart. He told me he thought it was running lean from what I was telling him. With the problems I was having I was hesitant to hook the Diablo up and do any data logging. I also don't know much about reading spark plugs but I now how to use "Google." So I pulled 1, 3, 5, & 7. #7 had a bunch of crap (carbon I guess) on it while the others looked like normal wear. I started looking at #7 and it was cracked all the way around the ceramic stem. I quickly replaced all 4 plugs with new onse and new wires too. Then I took the best ride I've had in 8 months! No more SES and back to full power. Thanks CZ28.com
