I would like to get some longtubes, lid, exhaust, what sounds the best on a ls1? if i bought a whisper lid, is that all i need or can i also use a ram air like the ftra and could i also use a cai with the lid and ftra or do you just use one or the other? sorry for being a pain but i would appreciate the help.

 

The right exhaust.

My car sounds great with just a lid and Magnaflow muffler, but it all depends on how you want your car to sound.

 

My car with just a cutout in the OEM pipe sounds great to me. The cats smooth out the tone a bit... very nascar like sound, 15 rwhp, and only 70 bucks to do it. Not to mention you can cap the sucker for long trips. If you have a few more bucks and want a cool gidget, the e-cutouts look to be fun.

I bought a lid from LS1 motorsports (forgot their new name) and cut out the bottom of the box, amongst other free mods... cept the MAF one. Car is noticibely quicker, and it only cost me a few hundred. Check out the lid comparo in gmhtp. I have a K&N, not for any gains, but because cutting out the bottom of the box lets the filter get dirty every few thousand miles.

I am happy with my mods, albeit I havent been to the track to get numbers, I would guess the car is putting down 325+ at the wheels, with maybe 400 bucks spent. Not a bad gain. Next, is a search of local boneyards for a LS6 intake. Heard of some going for as little as 50 bucks ...

 

Let me know where you find one for $50.

good luck with your ride bro...but if you want a lid, exhaust and headers i would just get the slp induction pack. it comes with a lid, and cai. i have an mti lid which works pretty good. exhaust i would get borla, loudmouth ,hooker cat back. the rumbler catback from tsp is supposed to be pretty pimp. as far as headers you can go with pacesetter for the price, then theres hooker, flp, qtp, and ppc, and kooks..

They have a bunch of different exhausts on a bunch of different setups. I have LTs and no cats and I personally think the Magnaflow sounds the best with this setup. Check it out though, its all about opinion.

 

thanks everyone, man you ls1 guys are way more helpfull than the v6 peeps were lol, i knew the ls1 was supposed to be fast but man i realized you have to respect the power way more than with a v6 lol, i didnt think the ls1 was this powerfull, seems like its a dog off the line but after a couple seconds it takes off like you hit a 200 shot lol, i raced a 00 gt last night with headers, intake and exhaust and i honestly blew his doors off lol, i love this car, i use to say its more impressive running 13s all motor in a v6 but now realize if i put that cash in the ls1 its more impressive running 11s-12s in a ls1 lol, i appreciate the help keep it coming

qtp longtubes, whisper lid, or is there a better hp lid? would the ram air lid like on the ws6 be more hp than whisper and the rest? not sure which exhaust lol, 3" would be best right? how about true duals?
