Post Piston/Valve Clearance on H/C Package

A friend is installing a .566".566"/222/114 LSA camshaft in his 2001 WS6 car, along with ported heads. The headwork will include new 2.02" intake valves. Has anyone heard of piston-to-valve clearance issues with this or a similar combination?

With that cam P/V clearance should be fine, even with the heads being milled a bit. I wouldn't worry about it but just to be sure "clay it" before bolting everything up.
Good luck!
Rick
ps.Make sure he uses quality valvesprings since if he doesn't valve float can become an issue and eventually lead to valve piston contact and an unhappy LS1 motor
I suggest at the minimum comp 918 springs.

Cool

He won't have any p-to-v clearance problems with that cam. I know of guys running up to 230 degrees of intake duration without any problems, although it's about the max that should be tried. You always want to keep a minimum of ~.080" clearance between the pistons and valves. It's not the peak lift #'s that you have to worry about; it's the low-lift area when the piston is at TDC that you need to be concerned with...just FYI.

Tell him to install it and not worry. I know of a LOT of guys running that cam, and bigger, w/ no problems. I'm running a 224/224, .581"/.581", 112 LSA in my car w/ no problems.
