Lightbulb Poll: Supercharging/Turbo charging and LS1....Good Idea?

Anyone know or heard anything about super/turbo charging an LS1. Would doing this reduce the life of the motor?
Is it a job that can be done by a do-it-your-selfer or does it need to be professional installed.

I believe that if they provide the power that they claim, an LS1 with a super/turbo charger would smoke just about everything on the road. I mean your talking about adding 100-150 hp with one bolt on. (I know they're expensive!)

Tell me what you guys think. Thanks.

I just got doen having a Procharger professionally installed. I love it!

I picked up a 900 miles used kit with all of the extras including new gauges for $3300 shipped(the basic kit goes for $5400). If I would have had the extra $3000 to throw around, I would have gone with a brand new Incon Stage II TT someone was selling. But a turbo setup is a bigger PITA to install, and requires a lot more tuning.

Cheaper and easier to do: Supercharger
More expensive but a lot more power: Turbo

I personally do not recommend running much boost at all on LS1's or LT1's without internal engine work. The LS1's ringlands don't hold up well under extreme cylinder pressure. This is only my personal experience, and that's been with one Vortech car, and one Procharged car.

IMO, you're better off doing heads/cam for now, at least until you pull your motor out and put some lower compression pistons in with wider ring end gaps

Ok, with the additional power, that pushes the car to 450 hp. That is not rally that much.

Deo\pending what you think is alot of hp. If you can do it, so can anyone else (the one power addrer theory).

Run up to most any Supra in Texas and you'll get smoked with only 450 h.p. Those cars for example can do that with only slight mods like turbo boost kit, and a computer upgrade.

I'd say change the cam and heads first then add the blower for 550+ h.p.

........hhhmmmm...well lets see..most of the Supras in town are around 550hp with the exception of "The Walser Supra"(874rwhp) and SW(I dunno the hp)but he ran 9.'s@150+traps....and Brice in houston (880+rwhp) and thats with 30k in mods...most of them are in the 11's so beating up on them with an F-body should not be to hard............I still hate those cars....
