Power Giving HEADERS
Just saved enough money to put some kick *** Mods into my 2000 Z28. Looking at the K&N 14.7HP Filter rather than a MIT lid. And Long Tube Pacesetter Headers. Now...i want to customize the pipes, but how do I get the most powerful set of lining that can me concieved??? Like should i just let the Long Tubes lead out from underneath the doors or just straight through to the BACK of the vehicle???And if that! Can a put some flowmasters on the tip of each pipe if that gives more HORSEPOWER. Educate ME!!!!!

Re: Power Giving HEADERS
Forget the K&N FPIK
Get a lid, any lid, and a Super Sucker Ram Air
Get the headers and true duals from here http://www.texas-speed.com/
And forget about Flowmaster it's all hype.

Re: Power Giving HEADERS
dont get the flowmaster. If you are on a budget, get a magnaflow catback. Pacesetters are good and tsp www.texas-speed.com has good prices. also, get the lid. The FIPK is not worth the $$.

Re: Power Giving HEADERS
i suggest you read the first 15pages of this forum...it will answer a lot of questions.
but the K&N kit isn't a bad setup, particularly on setups like the UltraZ or WS6 ram air hoods. but i don't think it has any advantage over a lid on a non ram air (even the SS style) hoods.
you'll get much better gains from a $100 lid and the $200 SSRA setup...cold air intake at slower speeds and a true ram air intake at higher speeds.
for the exhaust, just running the pipes out the side will be very loud and probably quite irritating to drive. but to keep a nice simple setup you can dump the pipes under the car just before the axle. throw on some 4x9" magnaflows or even some bullets or chambered mufflers and you'll be making excellent power, great sound and keep a simple design.
i suggest running a 2.5" X-pipe setup...more than enough flow for even h/c motors and you'll maintain a little more ground clearance than 3"

I like his second-to-last "sentence"
Sounds like you do need to become more educated.. But I have a great suggestion, go to a bookstore and buy Chevy LS1/LS6 performance Modifications. It tells you all the basic mods and the free mods plus how to's

Re: Power Giving HEADERS
get lid and a ram air setup (like the one i have posted in the for sale section)
straight pipes put out less power than a good X pipe setup and sound like garbage. a good x pipe true dual setup will give you better power under the curve and better peak power. off the shelf true dual systems like the one texas speed offers, get dumped before the axle, so keep that in mind
you probably want to look at catbacks and go to ls1sounds.com to listen to some combos before you decide.

Re: Power Giving HEADERS
I was entertaining the idea of side exit exh, but it would bee to darn loud, unless you get the right muff's. Pacesetter LT's or QTP's... THe QTP's can be pricey, but supposed to be good w/ a cam. I like the idea of the FIPK, but there's something unsettling about a FULL OPEN filter. especially for a DD.
I've got a 2kZ also...
