pro 5.0 shifter ?s
To keep things short, I just had my t56 rebuilt because of the stock hurst shifter had too much over travel in 3rd and 4th gear. Thankfully it was covered under warrenty. I'm looking at new shifters now to prevent this problem again in the future.
I know the B&M Ripper shifter has adjustable stops that prevent this over travel.
I couldn't find anywhere that indicated that the Pro 5.0 has this. Although I'm pretty sure it does, I want to make sure I'm not wasting my time.
Any other intelligent B&M vs Pro 5.0 comments are also welcome.

I have the pro-5 in my 98ss. It does have stops. they are bolts with nuts on them you can adjust. I too had my tranny rebuilt because of overtravel.........thats why I went with the pro-5.....good luck.......its a sweet shifter...

My two cents:
I have the pro 5.0 and I dig it a lot. Really takes a beating. Only negative that you should expect is the sound. Its gonna make noise, especially when the shifter hits the stop bolts. Oh yeah, dont forget to use thread locker

Mr Muff, I'm not sure exactly how you would know if it is over traveling, but it is not that uncommon of a problem. You could possibly take it to a trusted tranny shop. Over travel will break your tranny. I had to have 3rd and 4th gear rebuilt. Sychronizers were non existant they were so trashed.
Kinyu, can you please elaborate on the noise(s) it will make? Is it chatter, grinding, or what? I'd appreciate it.

I had a stock shifter for 70K miles, then bought a Pro 5.0. There are a lot of folks who say not to use the 5.0's stop bolts as it can't be exactly right for 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6 all at the same time. They say the rtanny has it's own internal stop mechanism. Well, that 'mechanism' isn't very robust.
I'm in the group which has decided to use them. What I did was initially set the stops just beyond where the shifter stayed naturally in each gear. I needed to loosen both screws a number of times before things stopped popping out of gear.
I usually don't hear any extra noise from mine. Sometimes if I try to put it in 1st gear a bit too early coming to a stoplight it'll generate a hollow knocking sound. I have the stock catback, so it's fairly quiet.

The Pro 5.0 uses it's own stops and the T56 has internal stops as well. I've spoken to some people that have told me they're "over shifted" they're T56. As you said the internal stops aren't too robust.
If you're interested I have the Pro 5.0 in stock for $169.95 . You can order online at http://www.norcalstreet.com

Thanks Kinyu, I appreciate it.
Sent you an email zman, but I think I might end up buying it new incase I don't like it (30 day money back thing).
Norcalstreet, don't mean to be rude, but another advertiser has the pro 5.0 on sale for $165 shipped. You match that and I'll buy from you.
Thanks Jim and sweet98ss, that's what I needed to hear.

MY 2 Cents,
I love mine, put in in at 3k no problems. becareful trimming the rubber boot that seals the shifter. the stock one is to small. i over cut mine alittle, so i have a little road noise, thats the only problem i had. I also trimed about a inch off the 5.0 stick the give you about 2 inches. so i have a homemade shorty stick. I love it.

I've been hearing great things about both the Ripper and Pro 5.0.
The one downside about the Pro 5.0 is the noise, does the Ripper make as much noise as the Pro 5.0? If it doesnt, and seems to be just as good, why dont more people buy Ripper?
Thanks!
