I haven't picked up some seafoam, and I actually just changed my oil, so I'm looking for the next best thing.

Can I just put some water slowly (not NEAR enough to hydrolock it) into my LS1 intake manifold (via the brake line/other)? I've read this is a great way to clean carbon off the chambers and piston faces.

Agree? Disagree? Just get sea foam and wait another 2500 miles? Let me know.

not sure if this is a goodidea, but last time I changed a head gasket on a 4 banger, the insides were beautiful from the coolant that had leaked in there. The valves and piston tops looked brand new.

 

Just run seafoam in the topend. you only need to do an oil change if you put it in the block.

 

I know you said water in a small amount but im just wondering if you're aware of that fact that WATER DOES NOT COMPRESS!!!!!!! I wouldnt consider that at all, dont take me for being an *** but ive seen what water can do, once again i know you said small about, but wait for the seafoam

 

Yes, I aware of the fact that water is largely incompressible, not entirely but for all practicalities it is. The reason we have upper and lower limits of heat in combustion is because of the presence of water vapor.

The trick would be to have just enough water (liquid) so that is all is vaporized and washes the cylinders. Too much and it won't all be turned into vapor, and will begin to occupy combustion space causing the combustion area to be decreased. When there is too much water, the combustion space goes to zero, and then there go the con rods.

...but yes I am aware of this. I'm not going to just keep adding water until it stops running with a garden hose. I think my engine would go

They are all saying water does not compress. Neither does SeaFoam. Hell..gasoline doesn't either. Thus the reason we incorporate air. Honestly though, I agree on just waiting for the SeaFoam. I buy mine over at my local AutoZone or Murrays now...so no more wait!

Dude, bad idea. Seafoam cleans because it's a concentrated chemical. Water will not really clean anything anyway. Carbon doesn't clean off very well with just water. But Seafoam works great, I've used it in my bike, in my car, and in other's cars.

Get the bottle of seafoam, use your brake booster vacuum line and a straw so you can get all the Seafoam (if you want to use the whole bottle). I will usually use whatever amount they recommend to add to the gas tank, then whatever's left run through a direct intake source (such as a vacuum line), and I will usually use at least 1/4 to 1/2 a can sucked right into the engine. Enjoy the smoke.

What about high pressure and high temperature steam? That should work! I believe that's how the water cleans the engine.

So, I guess no one used this back in the days before sea foam/ TEC.

This is the way I've heard it, mist small amounts in and make sure it is cold water. I am thinking it was used on older Carbed motors. I know we have done it ot some of the Ferrari's and Maseratis at our shop

 

fwiw I've used Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas and smoke comes out of the tailpipes. I'm guessing it's not a good idea to do any hard passes while this stuff's in the gas (detonation)?

 

If its smoking it isn't complete combustion so there shouldn't be detonation. I still wouldn't run it hard though.
