Putting an LS1 in my GMC
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any information or experience in putting an LS1 engine into a 90s GM truck. I have a 91 GMC 4X4 that I am rebuilding ground-up, and want to know how easy or difficult the swap would be. Also, do the B-W trannys fit the trucks? If not, what should I go with for transmission (performance wise) ?
Thanks,
Nick

Welcome to the board...
You can do the swap rather easily...you have tons of room to work with, so it isn't that big of a problem. The main thing you need to worry about is having all the electrical for the LS1...you should be able to hook up to your existing radiator and all (if it was a V8 truck) with no prob's...it has been done by a few people that I know. I would say that you'll need the 4L60 from a LS1 as well...I don't think they are very succeptible to many different tranny's, but I could be wrong. You will need to use the LS1 motor mounts as well. A lot of tinkering around and some patience, and it should go fine.

Well the 4l80e is in the trucks.. the 4l60e is in the cars.. the 4l80e is a stronger piece but more expensive..
As far as a 6 speed? any 98+ ls1 f-body 6 speed will work. Dunno what youd do about a ****er tho.
Remember the imput shaft on any tranny you use has to be for a ls1 (or truck version of the ls1)

If anyone has an LS1 engine or tranny that they are selling, let me know some details like modifications, mileage, approx. horsepower, etc. The year of the car it came out of would be nice too, and what kind (vette, camaro, ta).
I'm looking to spend around $1500-$2250 for the engine. If the transmission came with it I might go upt to $3500.
Thanks,
Nick
