Exclamation Question for all!

I just bought a 2000 Z28 a month ago and was looking under the car today and I see that my entire rear axle, drive-shaft, and the girdle on the rear are rusted pretty bad!?

Does anyone else have a Ls1 that there rear is rusted, is this normal??? Please reply ASAP.

(I have a dakota truck and a few other cars and none are rusted)

This car has only been owned in IL, I'm the 2nd owner. The 1st owner lives like 30mins away from me.

Sounds par for the course for salty Illinois roads.

Wire brush and some Rustoleium [sp?] ought to take care of it, or if you really want to stop the rust, go look at paint called POR-15. It is the end all, beat all of rust inhibitors as far as I'm concerned. Just don't get it on your skin, it WILL NOT come off.

Except on the collector editions GM doesn't paint the 10 bolts & they look like crap. Just paint over it with black rust proof paint.

Thumbs up

I have a 2002 Z28 with 2800 miles on it and live in Oceanside CA. My car has not seen rain or wet roads and my diff has rust on it as well. no big deal. if you want it off use a hand held wheel ginder with a wire brush. grind it off and paint it. use a heat paint.

Also, 2 types of drive shafts for the Fbodys Aluminum and steel. If you have rust on the drive shaft yours is steel. get an aluminum its lighter.

Yep GM is too cheap to waste 1 minute and $1.00 in paint to protect the rear ends. Mine was rusty at 1000 miles. Actually they are fine. But even if they do rust out, its just as well because the 7.5" 10 bolt is a POS!
