Question for Local's, San Jose, CA (cams)
Ok so I've done most of the bolt-ons that I wanted to do, and I really want to get an aggressive camshaft. The problem is that Speed Merchant in SJ, says that on the 2002 LS1's the computer is too complicated to switch out the cam. Also they say that the computer will have to probably be re-done a number of times until they finally get it right, each time being about $400-$500. On top of that the install and parts will run about $8,000. Don't get me wrong, these guys know what their doing, they can build anything and they have the best techs around, plus they be in business for like 30 years. I really want my car to remain all motor, so I don't really want N20 or a charger. Plus I really love the sound of an aggressive cam. So my question is, where can I get a cam installed, by a credible and legit business? I also would like my car to be smog legal if possible?
Thanks

$8k for a cam install & tuning is halarious. I wouldn't talk away from that shop, I would RUN They sound like morons. Go to BlackMagic in Antioch, he charges around $350 for a cam install or you can go to Force Fed In Yuba city & they charge about $400, plus they'll do the dyno tuning for around $450. The whole thing about them saying it'll be $400 every dyno tune to get it right is a joke. If they knew anything about LS1's it only takes one time & $450. BlackMagic doesn't do dyno tuning though so Force Fed might be a better choice because you will need your car tuned with an aggressive cam. The cam swap package from TR is $800, install $400, tuning $450, new timing chain $150, so you're talking $1800 for a full cam swap.

BOOOO to Speed Merchant. They know nothing about LS1's. And they are way way way over priced. Talk to Rick @ Synergy Motorsports in San Jose. He will take care of you from swap, through tuning if you decide on it. His shop is right off of Bird and 280. Call him at 408-592-0404 and talk to him. I guaurntee you'll like what he has to say.....

I know I already talked with him about that. Either one of these shops they've mentioned are good.I think synergy is another black magic shop(2)
But as mentioned Force Fed is the most well rounded as in 1 stop swap they do it all.
