Questions about gears...

I've got a 2002 SS. I dont know what gears I have. *shrug*

I was wondering the affects of getting bigger gears, say 4.10 and such.

I've heard that if you get bigger gears, then it makes your 'gears' shorter. How do they affect gas mileage? Low end/high end power? Top speed.... etc.

I have a M6, I can imagine that'll affect the answers I'll get.

You've got 3.42 gears, all M6s came with 3.42s. Upgrading to 4.10s will in a way make your gears "shorter." Your car will rev up quicker and obviously you will have to shift more.

Your gas milage probably won't suffer that much. Some people have lost like 1-2 mpg after switching to 4.10s. You got 6 gears, and with 4.10s, you'll be making use of all of them everyday.
