Exclamation Quick Help: Okay to do !MAF and De-Screen Mod???

Just need a quick answer. Is it safe to remove the restrictions in the MAF housings and de-screen the MAF??? I need to pass California emmision testing if that matters. Won't be any SES lights I hope? Thanks

Let me put it this way : a 2002-3 corvette z06 has a smooth MAF and absolutely no screens STOCK from the factory.

Well, you "can" do it and still pass emissions, but there are little wires that if messed up with F up everything, so pretty much do it at your risk. IMO I don't think it's worth it.

I haven't even breathed on the wires in the MAF yet, and I stashed it in the safest place I could find. Nothing will happen to it

I make it a point to not alter precision measurement devices, and I'd suggest that you do the same.

I think it is pointless without tuning.

Having said that, I swear I heard and felt a difference after descreening / porting mine.

I screwed my old one up trying to get the coolers out. So I got another one (lucky for $35 from a board member) and left it alone. The screens are easy, and they help. I think. I left my air-cleaner side screen on, because I run without filters at the track.

Please at least attempt to use the technical forums first before posting stuff like this in the Lounge. Moving to LS1 Tech.

Wow this is an old thread...

I didn't notice anything either except for a SES code But I reset the PCM and is hasn't come on since.

It will come on again,

I did this mod, and I had to reset the PCM about 6 times since I did it. It makes the car run too lean.

you gained 3rwhp from just de-screening your maf? If you just descreen it...it shouldnt throw a code should it? I mean i thought most people have the problems when it comes to porting it.
