quick Lid question

I bought my 02 ss and my lid has "blackhawk" listed on the outside corner... is this a modified lid or a stock lid with that name on it....

Also would you recommend the MTI Carbon Fiber lid or the ls1 motorsports lid?

Is this a noticiable mod power wise?

blackhawk or blackwing?
from what I have read its essentially a lid but some people feel it is still better to get an aftermarket lid...

its up to you if you like the stock looks, keep it.. I personally prefer stock to semi stock over super modded...

I never heard of blackhawk.

But as for the MTI or LS1 motorsport lid, I would recommend either.

All aftermarket lids do pretty much the same thing, so whichever you choose will give you pretty much the same power gain. I made my decision on style, I went with the MTI clear lid, I think its pretty cool looking. The power gain was nice

You see the power gains in Psychocabbages review section, he has some dyno #'s with the stock lid and with an aftermarket lid.

:-)

Its a "Black Wing" sorry about that... Also I've been looking at the whisper lids claiming a 15+ hp gain.... is this bull**** or what?

mti vs. whisper ....

mti = $149.99
whisper = $169.99

which did you guys go with for maximum power

Yes, any aftermarket lid will give you about 15 FLYWHEEL HP, about 8-12rwhp

All lids will do the same with power. So there is no maximum power lid. Like I said earlier, go with whatever design you like best, I went with the MTI clear lid. Or if you want to be real economical, you can grab lids on GPs for about $100 (black ones) but if you want something different like carbon fiber or clear, your gonna pay extra

Dunno what Blackwing or whatever is. I just put my MTI lid on today, I looked all over my stock one, doesn't say Blackwing on it :-/

I just went w/ the MTI black lid, mainly cuz they had an internet special goin on and it was only $80 or so. I don't care about clear **** or carbon fiber

Blackwing is part of the 345HP package that was available on a few cars.. I think it is a lit in and of itself.. I would look under it and see if it is smooth.. if it is.. then its kewl keep it.. no lid will give you 20rwhp and 15 is a not too common.. imo... but it will give you some.. so its not too bad.. so keep yours and its all good.. just get a dyno run soon to see how much you are making..

Like Psycho said, no lid will give you 20 rwhp, maybe 20 flywheel HP, but not rwhp, which really equates to about 8-12 rwhp. You gotta be careful when you read the description of products, most of them refer to engine HP, not RWHP like what a dyno shows you

The Blackwing is a factory aftermarket lid. This lid is good for 10hp. Stock SS' were 325hp, SS with the better exhaust was 335hp. With the lid and exhaust option your SS is rated at 345hp. Stay with this lid. I only gained 11hp with my SLP lid(all the same). Save your $100 for something else.
