Rear ABS sensor in differential out at 13K miles :(

ABS INOP light has been going on and off lately. Brakes feel fine, then weird like.

Took it to the dealer today (13,000 miles) and they checked it out. Code showed that it was the rear sensor in the differential.

Dude told me that he recommends they replace the fluid in the rear axle... price $97 with the additive.

Calls back a few minutes later saying that he was incorrect, it looks like the 2002 models got synthetic fluid like the truck rear ends. Cost will be $170 bucks.

I kinda thought that since they are replacing the rear ABS sensor and they have to pull the cover off the differential and drain the fluid to replace the sensor, shouldn't a fluid change be covered
under the warranty repair ???

Or can the sensor be removed without taking off the pan / draining fluid ??

My '88 IROC went 60,000 miles with nothing but oil changes. Then ignition problems plagued me until I found that the pick-up coil located beneath the distributor cap plate around the distributor shaft was intermittantly shorting out. Normally 232 ohms of resistance down to 0 resistance. Spent over $300 bucks in coil, wires, plugs, new control module, ignition module, distributor cap just to find out it was the pick up coil which, according to the certified GM guys, either works or doesn't.

My '95 Z28 had the manifold oil leak right out of the factory and right front ABS sensor went out and the whole front hub had to be replaced at 9,000 miles.

My '99 TA had tranny problems at 20,000 miles.. vibration in 3rd on an A4 but no vibration in 2nd or OD.

2002 Collector Edition TA with rear ABS out at 13,000 miles.

Either the L98 engine cars were better built than the LT1 / LS1 cars or I'm just buying the lemons that cannot go to the end of the warranty period without maintenance.

Where's the keys to my Cobra ??...ah.. runs like a champ!
