rear hatch problems

when i pop up my rear hatch i have to press the button 2 to 4 times just to release it..i played around with the 2 pegs and adjusted them to the fullest and i also lube the hatch mechanism and still the dam hatch wont open within one push from inside the car or 2 pushes from the remote..this sometimes is a pain...does anyone have problems with their hatch always being stuck like this when u press the remote more than 2 times? any suggestions? what might the problem be..

It is a very common problem. InstallUniversity.com actually has a fix for it. I did it and it works fairly well. Basically it is just an extra spring you put on the spring currently on your release and it makes it have a little extra power when you hit the button. I still find myself having to hit is a couple times every so often though. You can get the spring to use at Lowes or Home Depot for like 2-3 bucks for a 2 pack.

Thumbs up

I performed the install university fix over a year ago, and I've never had hatch problems since. It's been perfect; it opens the first time every time.

It sounds like this is the mod I need to do next! While it's not been limited to cold weather, I've certainly noticed that the success rate for first-time-opening has been really poor lately! A couple times, I've already had the car running, so the keys are in the ignition, then I've realized I want into the trunk. So?? I push the trunk release, go to the trunk, it's still locked, re-close, go push the button again, go back to the trunk, still locked, re-close, go push the button again!, and usually by the 3rd attempt it will open , but I feel like such a dumba$$ when I'm in my driveway, or at the mall, and I keep pacing back-and-forth from the driver's side to the trunk and back again!

Well, I guess tomorrow it's off to Home Depot!!

I'm another happy owner of a latch free of problems thanks to install university. Been about a year and no problems. Works fine now.

anyone have a problem closing their hatch? there are times when i slam it closed, and it looks closed but the light wont go off so i pull up and sure enough it's open, so i try again slam it down hard, and it still won't lock at times. i have to sit there and fight with it untill finally i slam it, push up and it won't budge, light goes off and it's closed.

You're having trouble closing it?? As a rule, I never slam the hatch closed.....sure I'll give it a good push, but I find the best way to know it's closed for sure is once it's down and latched (fully or not........but you can usually tell if the spoiler is lined up to the sides or not), give it one more firm push straight down. If it wasn't latched properly, you'll hear that satisfying "click" of it latching. I don't think "slamming" it shut will work best, because if you're closing it too quickly, it's pushing a lot of air (especially with doors & windows closed) and trying to compress it, so there's lots of resistance. That's why closing it slower and pushing straight down works better, cause then you can put more of your weight into it as well.
