Post Removing the pass. side floor hump

I just got my new SS wheels last week and i was letting my dad try it out. I was sitting in the pass. seat. I never realized how annoying the hump in the floor is! I know its there because of the cat, but I hate it. Removing both cats is not an option (hate the sound, and need to pass smog). What would happen if I only removed the pass. side cat? Would it sound the same as if both were gone? Would it still pass smog?

What if I got a pair of aftermarket cats: Would they be a little smaller?

What i'm getting at, is......I want to pull up the carpet and use like a sheetmetal hammer or something to flatten or reduce the hump. Is any of this possible?
Thanks

-Jeff

Removing one cat is silly, and not good either..

just get two smaller high flow ones.

The LS1 cats are directly connected to the exaust manifold, they are between the engine and firewall, not where you are referring too.

That lump is a by product of when the Fbody had the LT1, it's cat/cats were there! They just never bothered to get rid of it once they put the LS1 in the car... LS1 people have been known to pound that lump out of the passenger foot well with a BFH (big 'effin hammer) since there aint nothing below it anyway.

But if you ever put longtube headers onto the car your cats WILL be back there where they belong, under your feet and keeping your toes nice and toasty warm on a cold winter's morning.
