scared to dyno the car
Im going to UTI to become an auto technician. Im currently in "hot rod" class. They have lots of cars and we dyno them stock and then add cold air intakes, nitrous, mufflers, ect and see the results and figure out the benifits. Well my buddy dynoed his 97 ws6 stock and got around 250 horse. Then the only girl in my class dynoed her stock srt4 (neon) --she gets mad when we call it that, and she got around 250. I damn near crapped my pants . Well i have a stock 99 camaro ss and if my numbers arent significantly higher i will get laughed out of school. i dont think i will hit 300 hp with 130,000 on the car . what do you guys think i will dyno. even if i hit 300 wouldnt the little srt4 kill me if i raced her. ive already lost cool points cus she has a stick and mines automatic.

It is what it is. Things you could do prior to help optimize your numbers while keeping the car stock:
Replace the air filter with a new paper piece.
Clean the MAF sensor wires (carefully as they are sensitive).
Change the oil.
Replace the fuel filter.
Change the spark plugs (NGK TR55s are stock replacements).
Run a good 93 octane gas.
Replace the front NBO2 sensors if they haven't been replaced before.
Pull the PCM/BAT fuse for 5~10 minutes a before to 'clear' the PCM and any fuel trims and make sure the octane scaler is allowing the best timing.
In the end, 290's are a respectable spot for a stock '99 A4. If they laugh, go with NGK TR6's and hook up a wet shot. Then, see who who's laughing.

Stock for stock, an LS1 will crush an SRT4 and throw it into the wind... ...If she Mods that little thing however things can change VERY quickly as they can be made fast for cheap... but then again so can we...
The 99 WS6 T/A ... Was it an Auto or Stick? There's alot of things that go into Dynoing aswell as no two dyno's are going to pull the same HP - Also being that it is a free Dyno, who's to say that it hasn't been used to the point of malfunctioning? What was the temperature / humidity ect? Even with all odds against the LS1, 250 RWHP is alittle on the low end - your friend is probably in need of some maintanence and lube changes... If your car is up to par with maintanence you should achieve between 270 - 290 RWHP on the norm... M6's can peak at around 300 RWHP....
Bottom line though, even at the same HP rating, you're still making tons more tourque than it will EVER make all throughout the RPM band... Since the only thing you need to worry about is launching, you should waste it with ease...

i said he had a 97 ws6-thats a Lt1 engine and its rated around 270 but he dynoed 250 and its pretty clean with 80,000 miles. Im just nervous, im going to dyno it but not b4 new plugs and wires. Im thinking the srt4 would beat a stock lt1 cause its so light. The schools 98 ws6 dynoes around 271 with the cold air kit pluged and around 280's with it functioning cant wait till i hook up the nitrous to that thing and see it wake up.

Pump the tires up to about 40lbs and short belt it before you dyno .... those are two things you can do to boost your "stock" dyno numbers ...

I have a fairly stock '01 and dynoed 342 hp and 359 tq on a mustang dyno. Just free mods, cai, slp lm.
Do a tune up, change the oil, and do the free mods and I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised. Get a cutout.

That seems awefully high - especially for a Mustang dyno (unless they weren't applying any fricitonal road forces).

Manufacture rated LS1 Z28's at around 310 HP when they actually make somewhere closer to 350 HP at the FLYWHEEL ... However when it gets put to the ground (or Dyno), only about 270 - 280 are going to make it because it takes energy to move energy...
And the LT1 stock for stock will run all over the SRT4 from a dig... from a roll...well...it will be alot more interesting...

If a stock LT1 and stock SRT-4 Neon put down 250, it sounds like a friendly dyno. A stock LS1, even an early auto car should be able to hit the 300rwhp mark.
And for the last time it IS a damn Neon. The SRT-10 vehicles are still referred to as Vipers or Rams, just like the SRT-8 vehicles are still referred to as Chargers or 300Cs.

if you really want to make her mad, sit in the driver seat and ask where the buttons are to roll down the back windows (they have manual back windows)
