Shop Quote: Plugs and Wires

So I was at an auto place making an appoitment to get the idler pully and belt tensioners replaced(Again!) because of the wretched squeaking noise.

Anyways, its about times for plugs and wires getting changed, so I went ahead and asked for an estimate.

$550

I knew it was supposed to be tough...but I almost passed out

Re: Shop Quote: Plugs and Wires

Yikes! I've heard of high estimates for plugs/wires before, probably because they just didn't want to to change them, but $550 is the highest.

I bet he has to bring his own. I know I did.

I don't know what I paid for the plugs and wires but I want to say my tune up was $600ish.

If I was you I would spend that $$ on a nice set of headers and set a day aside and do the header install along with the plugs and wires. Would be a piece of cake with the manifolds off plus you would have headers. JMO

I've been planning on it..but since I had to get some other things done I wanted to see how much it would cost. If I could find a place to do it for only $150-200 then it would be worth it to me to just pay them. It will be tough to set aside a couple hours for the project at this time.

Dude...
If you are going to throw away your money...
Just give it to me!!! lol
I know Irridiums and wires can be like 150 bucks, but save yourself some money and get to know your LS1!
Just immagine if you had to swap copper plugs every 5 or so thousand miles...now that would suck bad. You can be half lazy if you decide to go irridium and have plugs that will last for some time. Beware! #8 cylinder is a major pain in the azz!

Re: Shop Quote: Plugs and Wires

if a guy isn't going to replace his own belt tensioners, what makes you think he wnts to do plugs and wires. some people don't have the time or inclination to work on their cars. for some people, the time it takes to work on a car can be better invested elsewhere. $550 is still too high, though
