shorty headers??

I am looking at purchasing some 98-00 shorty headers and offroad y-pipe for a 02 Z28.

My question is, I want to be able to switch back to my stock y-pipe with cats for emission. Will my stock 2002 cats and y-pipe bolt up to 98-00 shorty headers? Also how hard would it be to get the EGR to connect to the 98-00 style. Thanks for any help

Joe

Hey,

I'd reccomend against the purchase of shorty headers for a LS1. They stock manifolds (especially on the 01-02's) flow VERY well for stock manifolds, and you'd be better off getting a set of midlength or longtube headers. you might see 5 rwhp if you are lucky with shorty's.

Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for the advice. But I am just wondering if they would fit the y-pipe of an 02

I believe that BBK makes 1 3/4 inch Shortie Headers that will mount to the stock Y-Pipe. From what I've read you will see about 10 rwhp increase verses the 3 rwhp increase from the 1 5/8 inch JBA and Hooker Shorties. I believe I saw them on the TBYRNE website.

But if you were going to go to the trouble of installing headers I would go with Long Tubes. Several Manufacturers make them with high flow catalytic converters. Your gains would be 20 plus hp increase. Probably more than double the gain you would see with Shorties.

Good Luck,

Al
