Should I be worried?

My car -
2001 LS1 with 52K miles. ALL Stock, Delco Battery, Nothings ever been changed but the airfilter's, oil, and PCV Valve... I'm pretty sure infact even the Fuel Filter is stock.

Anyway... I cranked it this evening and it started fine. I put it into Overdrive and as soon as the tranny shifted, the car just started sputtering and poofing, all the lights flickered like crazy for about 2 seconds and the gauges were everywere. Engine nearly dies and then bang! Everything was okay again... RPMS read a solid 0.5K RPMS, Engine ran strong, Lights stopped flickering and it was almost as if nothing had ever happened. Anyone have a clue as to what happened? Should I be worried or anything? This is the first time this has happened...

"Delco battery" raises a flag for me, especially if it's the one that came with the car. Check the positive terminal for tightness/any leaking.

Sounds like a battery problem to me. I had very similar problems due to a loose battery connection.

I had an issue similar to yours also, sometimes when I shifted hard, hit a bump in the road, or turned hard, all the lights in my dash would go out, flicker a couple seconds then come back on, happened 10 tens maybe. Then one day took a turn, flickering dash then my car died. I knew it was electrical related, started looking at the battery and connections, realized it was a bad battery connection to the power accessory port, which I used to hook up my linelock. Just tightened it up and never had an issue again. My advice is to just check all of your battery connections.

Re: Should I be worried?

I had that problem with my car. Turned out to be a ground wire on the back of the driver side head came loose so my gauges would go all crazy and the car would cut off. This happened about 1 month after i put a 04 Z06 engine in my 98 the freaken bolt i used for the ground was a little bit too long so i had to cut the wire and reground it somewhere else because the bolt would hit the firewall. and theres no space what so ever behind the head. But check grounds make sure there tight.
