you going with the skip shift kit thingie mabob or are you just getting a .20 cent resistor from radio shack? i would suggest the resistor.....cheap as hell, does the same thing.

if you use the resistor, you'll need:
*OH MY GOSH* -- the resistor
electrical tape
scissors -- to trim the wire extensions on the resistor
and of course a way to get underneath your car.

ls1.com has pretty well-laid out instructions to complete the process with pictures and all. i just printed out the page and glanced at them when necessary while installing the resistor.

*let the car cool a while if you had just been driving it before install, no need rubbing arms with the hot tranny....
**i further suggest to adaquately wrap the whole mess with tape so as to protect it from the elements....no need for water to splash all up in that crap....anywho....that's all i got.....took about half an hour from when the car went up in the air to when it came back down....

I installed the SLP version of CAGS defeat--assuming you can get under the car easily, it's a snap, and it fits and looks original. See this website for directions:

I wasted 25 bucks and installed the ready made skip shift module. Took all of 5 minutes from start to finish. Very easy. Just follow the directions and will be a piece of cake. Well worth it also.

I just did mine a couple minutes ago. I went to Radio Shack and bought the 2.2k ohm 1/2 watt resistor, plugged it in, taped it up, zip tied the wire and that's it. It's done. Very easy.

psychocabbage, I thought the same for a while, but when taking a corner on snow/ice covered streets and having it do the 1st-4th thing all the time b/c you can't rev that high in 1st around the corner, it gets very annoying. Simple mod, and you get to choose your gear no matter what. Worth it in my book.

Economy, so you don't burn as much gas or something like that.

Its real easy man. I actually put mine in today. Jack up the car, locate the plug on the tranny above and toward the right/back of the orange sticker, disconnect and install the skip shift. Easy as that. Good luck with it and enjoy!

While it is easy, pay attention to the directions at the website I gave you above. It is easy to plug it into the wrong solenoid and in the process defeat your reverse lockout, in which case you can shirt into reverse accidentally at any speed--ugly. Also, the SLP looks like the original harness--when you sell the car, no one will look at the transmission and think it's been home- cooked; and why do it?--when you start off cold in the morning and don't want to pop 3500 RPM in first to keep the skip shift from working, it's nice to have it. Also, if you do happen to shift early in traffic, it is annoying (and possibly dangerous) to find yourself chugging in fourth when you wanted second.

it all started one stormy night, when the ford techs, snuck into gm's secret lab, and decided that these solenoids would keep the 99 cobras right next to our cars, but like everything ford does, it' didn't work out 100%

It looks good on paper.

The bean counters were able to prove that by using skip shift, our cars would get better gas milage, thus eliminating the gas guzzler tax and keeping the price of the car down.
