Re: SLP Lid VS FIPK??

I would suggest the K&N FIPK. Many people have seen gains in excess of 20 rwhp. When I installed mine, I felt an immediate difference. Much quicker throttle response.

The lid is a good mod. I agree it should be the first engine mod. If the price of the FIPK is too much, by all means get a lid instead. The FIPK will get you more rwhp. But unless you are a die hard racer I doubt you will actually notice the difference.

Keep in mind the ram air mod (which is a separate mod) can scuk up water and hydrolock the engine. It has been known to happen. Since the original poster is from S0. Cal., I'm sure he is recently familiar with with flooded streets and heavy rains.

BTW, if you go with the lid and FTRA mods, the cost of the two will be about the same as the FIPK.

Don't let the hydrolock thing scare you away from a lid and ram air combo. A blockoff plate is cheap and easy insurance. Plus the only cases of hydrolock I have ever heard of are during flood type scenarios where the person ran through 1-3 feet of standing water which is never a good idea at any time with any car.

Lid + SSRA is a great combo IMO. You get the performance of a lid and the added bonus of cooler air being drawn in from outside the car. The cost is about the same as a FIPK but IMO the performance is a tad better.
