SLP's 485HP heads and cam.

take your well earned $$ and call up thunder racing or a place i've really liked to deal with- texas speed and performance. they will set you up with 485hp at the wheels instead of 485 at the flywheel (400 at the wheels)

I wouldn't say SLP is all talk but there are WAY better H/C combos available, for less money to boot.
500fwhp N/A shouldn't be too much of a problem with a good H/C package and your basic bolt-ons. 500rwhp is a different story, I don't think you could achieve that w/o going with more cubes, FI or N2O.
Just look around some of the message boards and you'll see what's out there.

Could it be possible to upgarde a SS to make a round 450HP and keep it street friendly?
When such HP gains are made, how important is it to upgrade other components like the rearend and the drivetrain?
Thanks-

and if your really serious about building a stout setup like that start from the rear and work your way front.
i just looked at your sig, a4 will be alot harder to get 450rwhp out of a h/c setup. also get a new TC before anything, that'll be your best mod period.

I think that the biggest problem with this kind of post is that the questioner never states whether the goal is rear wheel HP or flywheel HP.
450 flywheel, streetable is easy.
500 rearwheel streetable will only come with a power adder such as a turbo kit.
Buddy has a stock motored TT Formula that puts down well over 550 RWHP that drives like a stock car and gets 30 MPH on the highway.

SLP Performance Parts, Toms River, NJ installed it. They (Brian Reese) did the dyno tune also. This package (installed 10/02) was with the earlier SLP heads prior to their employing larger valves. Today's package should do even better than mine. See my signature for my total performance bolt-ons. Most are SLP and IMHO are totally worth the price. They include:
*SLP CAI, Smooth Bellows, 160* stat, 85mm MAF
*SLP Billet flywheel & clutch pkg
*SLP headers
*LM
*Race pipes
*Moser 12 bolt, 411 gears, Eaton diff w/800# springs and 22 disks (std w/33 spline axels)
Yeah, a lot of SLP parts, but I've also obtained suspension, brake and road race parts from other vendors.
Bottom line:
*Engine numbers: 492 SAE FWHP; 468 SAE FWTrq
*Rear Wheel numbers: 419 RWHP; 396 SAE RWTrq. Keep in mind these numbers were through a 12 bolt that eats up HP vs a 10 bolt.
*FWIW, raw RWHP maxed out at about 455
I'm sure there have been improvements across the entire spectrum of performance parts suppliers and you could find a combination of parts to do better. But, this post started w/a queston as to the performance of SLPs H & C package.
My car is streetable from its idle all the way through WOT. I take it to the race track (Summit Point, Pocono, etc) and its an absolute blast. The performance, both handling and acceleration, are up there w/modified ZO6s and Porsches. With Victor Racers it can corner w/ stock ZO6s. Quite an accomplishment for an FBody.
If I had a chance to do it again, I go the same route. SLPs quality was worth much to me in ensuring I received a product that would work first time and not need repeated trips to tweek it.
Regards
Steve

Thanks steve-d! You're right , that is why I started this post, to see how SLPs head and cam combos were. The numbers you have on your car are quite impressive...how much was everything in the end? If you don't mind me asking? Shoot me an e-mail if you want. Thanks-
