smoke from exhaust...

i just noticed whta appeared to be smoke (white) come out of my exhaust last sunday. it did it at start up and a good 2-3 minutes afterwards. eventually it goes away. it did it a few days afterwards, but like mentioned not all the time. we've had rain from sunday-thursday , dont know if that has anything to do with it,as ive been told that its just condensation coming out. well the last todays weve had nice weather, i didnt notice any smoke at all except in the mornings but hardly any. it does it when in park. i did have a friend follow me around one night, and he said that he hardly notice any coming out. what ever it is, its freaking me out.the only time that i can recall thisa happening is during winter, but what car doesnt....i just recently got LT's put on with an ory, o2 sims. i dont have the SES light on, and i have not gotten it tuned. which is why i get the awfull fuel smell and the burning in my eyes. I took a vid of the "smoke", i cant remember what day its from though either wed or thursday. it didnt smoke the whole day today, but a few minutes ago i went outside and turned it on, no smoke, but once i rev it a little, the smoke started to come out. i have to get back there in order to see it.

ive checked the oil and the level as well, both look fine. coolant level is fine, and my car doesnt over heat.

any input from you guys would be really helpfull. I plan on getting the car tunned within the next couple of weeks. i will also get another vid tomorrow it it decides it wants to smoke again..

If you're not losing coolant and you oil is fine then it's probably just moisture in the exhaust burning off. It's way more noticable without cats.

White smoke is an indicator of burning water. If it just happens for a bit at start up I wouldn't worry about it, but that's just me. It's likely due to the air temperature and/or the condensation burning out of the system

You really want to see your exhaust? Start up your engine when it's -40 out

i've had guys tell me that it could be a head gasket (ruledout),valve seals, or just simply condensation...as far as the oil goes, it consumes like any other ls1, but i have never put a qt in between oil changes. note i probably get an oil change twice a yr or so.im just so paranoid....btw i forgot to bring my cam earlier this morning but i drove it to the store and when i got there i left it on to go check around the back and i saw a little bit come out......

no kidding...3 months would mean i change the oil every 500 miles :blah:

and at nearly $5 a quart...to hell with that

and i usually change mine about every 4K...i figure 3K is a bit early for a non-hard driven car...but 5K is a bit long

Re: smoke from exhaust...

if you can't afford to change the oil in a race car, sell the race car. Mine has 3 months and 520 miles on this oil change, and you can bet it will be getting changed this weekend. And that's Mobil 1 synthetic. Guys, it's better to be safe than sorry, I don't care what they advertise about how long it's good for.
