spark plug swap

First off let me say that anyone wanting to do this on their ls1 should first visit http://www.installuniversity.com/ins...sity/index.htm I read over the section on Spark plug and wire swap a few times and jumped in. I had all 8 plugs and wires off in one hour and fifteen mins. Then put back together in 45 mins. 2 hrs from start to finish, pretty good I think. But heres my problem, after the swap the SES light came on, and stayed on till today after work. Started up and the light was off. I thought great, what ever the problem was its gone now. So I let the car warm up a few mins and went to schucks to get a new headlight. Good pull from a stop, but going 35 and gettin on it it bogs for a few seconds, then picks up power, slow. tried it again, going 35 put it to the floor and the power came up very slow, it sounds ok at idle, it does idle at about 800 rpm. I'v gone back over all the plugs and connecters and every thing is tight and snapped in. Any ideas thoughts or questions?

Re: spark plug swap

get the PCM scanned for DTCs if the light came on there should be at least one stored even if the light turned back off....it's likely just a specific intermittent misfire on one cylinder or another. probably just a loose connection. good luck.

stranger things have happened than a faulty NEW unit.

Re: spark plug swap

I gapped them at .06, then rechecked them and was carful when putting them in, as not to hit or bang or tap anything going in. If its not better today, not seeing how it would, I'll remove them and recheck the gap and look at the wires closer. The wires are MSD wires. they looked ok. I put in NGK tr55s

Re: spark plug swap

the NGK T55's should come pregapped at .050. I gapped mine to .055. You might have to much gap.

Re: spark plug swap

I have read where guys are gapping them at .06. Is that too much for a stock engine? If so i'll regap them, and is .055 the right gap? Never thought to check the gap on the ones coming out.
Thanks

Re: spark plug swap

I was thinking about this at lunch, and at .060 might be too much. When you idle is fine, but when you want to get on it it bogs (meaning that the air comming into the cylinder maybe blowing out the spark) causing the hesitation.

.050 is the correct gap from NGK. I read a few post to people with mods simular to mine that were having idle problems with that gap.

Re: spark plug swap

I gave all 8 wires a going over, they all looked fine. Thinking about going back to the bosch platinums, that is what I took out. The car was running good with them in. I only did a plug change because I bought the car 4 mos. ago and handnt dont any type of PM or tune on it. If it dosent fix the problem then new wires will be going in next. I have the R/R down to a hour and a half. So thats not a big deal.

You should be changing wires at the same time as the plugs, just a general rule.

From your sig, it seems you don't really have any mods, so a tune would be useless anyway, not really much to gain.

I Had The Same Problem When I Swapped My Plugs. I Have Some Ngk Tr55's. My Ses Light Will Come On...then When I Hit 2500 It Starts Flashing. What The Hell Is Going On Here. The Gap That Came With The Plug Was .055...is That To Much??? I'm Confused. I Also Put Anit-seize On My Plugs...could That Of Burned Out The O2 Sensor

I did my plugs and they are gapped the same as yours. I get no SES light at all. Did you change the wires out?
Anti-seize should not have burned out your 02's. You put very little on just to cover the threads.

I Actually Didn't Change My Wires. I Didn't Think I Would Have To. It's Just Weird That Its Doing This. I'll Probably Pick Up Some Msd Wires. I'm Thinking About Taking It To The Dealer Though. It's Still Covered
