Obviously this is because people do not know much about Camaro's and think that the SS is alot faster. I have installed a factory replica of the ram air hood and made it functional. It claims to add 15 hp however I do not notice a difference. I have never dynoed the car so I wouldnt know how much it really adds. However, it distrurbs me greatly that people are very dissapointed when I mention my purchase of a Z. It is only when they see the car that they are impressed with the hood. But without actually seeing it, their reaction really does get on my nerves. I had some guy actually tell me "You shoulda bought an SS dude their like a bazillion times faster." When in reality the difference is only 15 hp. Oh well looks like Z owners have to put up with this.
Don't worry the nice thing for those of us who own 2001 Z28 is that are cars are more rare than 2001 SS

I get some comments on both cars, the SS probably more than the Z28, but more people comment on how good my Z28 sounds with the Borla . I plan on putting a Magnaflow catback on the SS soon, my wife drives it more than I do and she doesn't want an offensively loud car, so I decided on the Magnaflow.

Thumbs up

Before I bought this car, I never had anything even close, so I don't have much to compare to, but I get a thumbs-up sign from other drivers, and people everywhere (at stoplights, parking lots, anywhere) always comment "nice car." I don't know if this is purely due to the SS factor, or if the same would be true if I had a Z28, but it's quite a change for me and took some getting used to (I do like it, for the most part though). From my personal feelings - I never liked the looks of the newer Camaros much - thought they looked too plain (not flaming, just my opinion), but when I first saw the SS (that I eventually bought) I thought it looked bada$$. Amazing what the hood, spoiler, and wheels can do for a car...

i had a magnaflow on my car back in the day, and in my opinion it sounds just about like a blocked off borla. the passenger side pipe sounds 2x as loud as the drivers side, which i thought was funky. it sounds really good, but if your looking to quiet it down i would probably look into dynomax.

I think another factor with the SS is that people know its a V8. You know how sick it makes me when people ask if my Z28 is a V6. I actually had to pop the hood for some dude and have him count the cylinders bc he insisted my car was a 6.

I think its all in the hood. They see that scoop sitting up there and its instant respect. I had a guy come a tint the windows on my old S-10 today and he saw my 99 with the SS hood. I mentioned that it was only a V6 and he said "Whoa I saw that hood and I thought you had the big motor!" I was driving home earlier and some dude walking his dog gave me the thumbs up. People love the scoop on the hood.

shaddup you! *shakes fist*

in the couple of hours i spent washing my car sunday i had 5 people walk up and talk to me about my car. telling me how sweet it looked. two of which said they were looking for one just like it. one guy, a mustang owner, asked me how much i would charge him to detail his car lol. i didn't have the heart to tell him no matter how much i washed it, it would never look this good .

Thats what I thought before I ever bought the car. Its all about the hood. Thats why I went out and bought a ram air hood w/ functional ram air for my Z. However looks like it will never get the respect it deserves. Ive considered taking off the Z28 decals and slap on some that say SS since I figured that was gonna be the only way to get some respect for the thing, but thats a ricer thing to do and im not gonna sink that low. The car is a sweet *** ride regardless of the SS label. And with the ram air its just as good as the SS

I bought the SS beacuse of the looks, that's all it really is after all. And you get the 17" rims and better shocks. My brother put an SS hood on his car(95 Z28) and he definetly got more looks and comments than my '97 Z28. With the SS I have now, yeah "people dig it". I can't decide which I like more....looking out at the road over the bulging hood or in the rear view at the sloped up wing

I get lots of compliments on my SS from all types of owners from import to domestic. The fact that it is Hugger Orange really sets it apart as well. I'm the only HOSS in my area, and it turns heads everywhere I go. I nearly caused a wreck because a driver stopped paying attention on the interstate trying to get the passenger to take a picture of my car... It's an amazing car, and I'm lucky to have her.

I must admit that i love camaros and f-bodies in general. I opted for the z-28 not for price, cause i almost drove off the lot with a new 2001 red ss, but i feel the z is more for the money. I took that extra $4000 and put it into the car...theres not an ss that even came close to hangin with my shi*. Although those hoods do look pretty good, i have often contemplated getting a hood and a spoiler. maybe a more unique approach though. i think if i made it look like an ss and put the badges on it, my friends and crap would talk shi*(even though im by far the fastest). maybe a one of those super spoilers and that hood for camaros that has a ws-6 scoop on it? i would like to be original instead of trying to make my z look like an ss. not very oringinal.
