Is this a streetable cam for an LS 5.3?

I found this custom grind at Thunder Racing.

.600/.523 214-220@.050 115+2 LSA

While I have other minor mods in the works to increase the total number of horsepower, I am looking to gain 25-35 of those rwhp to to my '04 5.3 liter Tahoe via a cam swap.

I would prefer a cam that does not require computer tuning. Most of all I want it to have close to stock like drivability.

The other mods are a K/N FIPK and a Magaflow straight through muffler. Just looking for a noticable increase over stock.

you will need computer tuning for any cam you put in there...that one shoudn't give you driveability issues after it is tuned. you could get away without tuning for it, but the results would not be optimal

question... that cam has some serious lift

does that effect the springs more so,equal to, or less than duration?

that lift will affect spring requirements...a dual spring would be highly recommended/required for use with a cam like that

lift will affect what springs you select moreso than duration. the ramp rate of the lobes is important too, which is usually reflected in the amount of lift of the cam.

a simple mail order tune will probably be sufficient for that cam. talk to the guys at thunder, they can probably give you the most accurate tune since it's their cam

The "old man" grind. Should be a good sleeper cam. Should run stockish, but you'll have to watch the springs like a larger cam.

If you want more like stock check out the GT2-3 from LPE.

It'll be easier on the valve train also.
