Ticking

Ok, so I've had this ticking thats been going on for a while. Not a knock a true tick. I do have mac headers so could this be caused by the air tubes,i know ive read that somewhere but not sure how to fix that, also the car has only been overreved(sp?) and that was over 40k ago. On another note it was overreved(sp?) before the headers and did not tick at that point in time. I only started to notice this after the headers were installed. Could this be piston slap as well;however, why would piston slap develop after the headers, or am I just paranoid? Also, even when the motor was overreved(sp?) I never noticed a loss of power at all.

Re: Ticking

easy way to see if it's the air tubes would be to unplug the air pump, then take a piece of thin metal and block off the tubes where they bolt to the header. just sandwich the metal between the 2 flanges...

if it goes away you know what it is.

and if that works, i think you just have to drill a hole that is smaller than the existing tube, to restrict the air that goes into those tubes.

Re: Ticking

most likely...

another possiblitiy that i just thought of was a sticking injector. but i'm not sure that would be loud enough to hear over the engine.

are you sure it's not an exhaust leak?? maybe recheck all your header bolts.

Re: Ticking

how is your oil pressure? does it tick when the motor is cold or after its warmed up? or all the time? does it vary with RPM? is it merely a loud fuel injector?

EDIT: try to check exhaust manifold gaskets too

Re: Ticking

I too noticed a slight "ticking" after installing my L/T's wile accelerating. I visited several shops, including the shop who did the installation. It was not anything inside the motor. The motor was never past 4K RPM.

They fabricated and installed "reducers" on the air tubes and that fixed the problem.

oil pressure is good, i dont think its an injector but from what i hear and the feedback ive received here im leaning toward either the air tubes or like you said teh exhaust manifold gaskets.
