Firestone Firehawk SZ50 EP 255/50ZR16
or
BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 245/50YR16
I'd go with one of them unless you wanna go with something really sticky like a drag radial (i.e. Nitto). The problem with a wider tire on your rim is you will loose cornering ability. Your best bet is to get a set of replacement tires and save up for some new rims that'll hold wider tires. Just my 2¢

Original offset is 50 with the 16"X8" rims, on my wife's Camaro we have 16"X8" rims with a wider offset (35) plus 1" spacers and 255/50/16 tires (rear only). There's no problem with rubbing at all, the car is not lowered...245/50/16 front with the same size rim (offset 35) fits also perfect...
You shouldn't have any problem with 245/50/16 front and 255/50/16 rear with the stock rims (assuming it's the 16X8 stock Z28 alu rim)

ok.. tires.. love this topic.. next to dynos. this is my fav..
I always recommend www.tirerack.com and yokohama AVS ES100 for those wanting to save some $$.
Yokohama makes some real nice tires and I have always been very pleased with them. Also must note that a car magazine did a test of the ES 100 and was also pleased with them. I beleive it was car and driver.. I get so many i forget.. hehe
In any case, http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes is the link to the info on this tire. I personally prefer 245/50/16 (stock size). More tire = more friction. If you drive in a straight line, then you want the absolute least amount of tire you can get away with. Hence the reason people use front runners. Small up front so little friction is applied and the minimum at the back that you personally need.
I can launch on 245's and get 2.0 on street tires. I know I can do better as my 6speed launching skills havent been honed yet.
Looks are an entirely different issue altogether and I car not for the "look" as much as the cost and performance. For $93 a tire I can have all 4 installed for abouit $480. Thats $93 a tire x4 plus shipping and install (about $75).
Not too shabby and with a cheaper tire, if you are hard on them and replace tires often, you can run newer tires more often rather than nearly balds for a time..
I expect these tires to return more than 15K miles as they are a harder compound than the ones they replace.
Good luck!
