Post trans am vs. z28

I was planning on purchasing a 1998-99 f-body. I know that the powertrain is the same between the z28 and trans am, but I was wondering if the suspensions were different. I don't really have a preference between the bodies, but I was wondering if one had a smoother ride than the other. Any input would be appreciated.

I like the cars equally the same, one important note though. You can't install a hitch on the TA, not that most people would want too, but if you thought it might be a possibility to tow a Seadoo or small trailer you are out of luck, its the reason I didn't go with the TA.

The interior of the T/A is diferent and has more options. The T/A also has a few things standard that are options (leather, chrome rims) or not even available on the Camaro (dual power with lumbar supports). Peformance is the same. Got to a dealer and check both out. It basically comes down to what you think looks better. Happy hunting.

You CAN install a hitch on a T/A. My buddy Mitch (mitchntx) had one on his '98 T/A.

TA's do look a little better stock, yet i have always noticed that their interior is a little cheaper, through my experience between the two. Plus i have always hated the interion of TA's and the red look inside just isn't my thing. So it is pretty much what you want, and if you want to mess with the flip up headlights. Yet performance wise they are about the same other than a few lbs. However a Formula is about 100 lbs. lighter than the TA but has the same power, so you might look into that.

TA's have much better interiors. Much better seats especially. Other than that, the cars are basically equal in every aspect

I was told the Trans Am has a softer spring rate than the Camaros, giving the camaro a SLIGHT handling advantage, maybe not even a noticable advatage. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I've heard it many times on LS1.com and LS1tech.com. Other than that the suspensions are the same. If you plan to lower than this shouldn't be an issue at all.

Like I said, I'm not sure if this is fact, just something you may want to look into.

The springs have the same part number and are the same.

As for the interior, I just sold my '98 Z28, but had it and the T/A concurrently for a while. The Camaro interior is much more plain Jane than the T/A.

The choice to buy one or the other is simply a matter of asthetics and price. They are the same car underneath.
