H-pipes or X-pipes (X-pipes being the best) are not a MUST, but I think most guys would highly recommend them. Their purpose is to balance out the exhaust pulses or something like that, and in essence each bank helps draw the exhaust out from the other one. If you don't use an H or X-pipe, you won't notice anything wrong, and it won't make the car run bad, but it's just better to use one.

I was looking into this for awhile. The only way to go over the axle that I found was to use 2 2.5" pipes next to eachother in the stock location. 3" won't fit and there's not room on the drivers side from what I read. Most just dump before the axle. Another option to an x-pipe is use a magnaflow dual/dual muffler with a straight through x design. Part #11379 and 11386 aluminized, #14379 and 14386 stainless. 3" mufflers avaiable too. Kill 2 birds with one stone for $100. Never heard this setup but I may try it.

It was my understanding that an X pipe was need.. Especially on the Ls1 s due to the fireing order and Gas pulses. NOT saying im right but this is what Ive heard. Ithink It would be a worthwhile adventure but I would say just dump it before the Rear Axle. Its the cheapest way to do and still sound damn good..

Good Luck,

Here's one running both over the axle on the passenger side (stock location): http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...273735&page=10

Here's another, running a very, VERY tight (not tight as in "cool") setup: https://www.camaroz28.com/~chris/mmexhaust/

The T/A (1st one) is owned by a member here: thegrasshopper24. I'd PM him with any questions you might have.

Camaro_Guru16NY, he can't dump them before the axle (because of emissions).
