Re: Tsp 224r
how much do you drive the car?
the springs would probably still last 30k miles. for me that would be over 4 yrs probably.
so $200 in springs every 4 yrs...not horrible for an extra 10-15hp (guess)

Yeah, I just bought the Patriot LS6 style heads and they come with the gold dual springs. I just don't want to have to change the springs every 10-15k. 30k I could live with. Does anyone know the difference in spring life between the XE and XER 224 lobes?

W/those patriot heads you should get the patriot 226/226 cam if its cheaper.

I would, but I live in CA and need a smog legal cam.

The 224 has been known to pass, but still may not. It is boarder line.
Personally, I don't see why more CA people don't run the CheaTR. It's designed to work better with the restrictions you'll face.

From what I've seen here in CA, the 224's on a 114 pass easily. This is a very popular cam here. Now the 224/228 on a 114 is definately borderline, but most even pass with this cam on a good tune. Sometimes I wish I lived where you do, so I could run what I really want to. I just solved my problem today though.......and ordered a custom cam.

It's a 93pony custom. It's a 224/224 .58x"/.56x" on a 114 LSA with no advance. It'll make more peak and "under the curve" power than the OTS cams. I'm just bumbed I have to wait a couple weeks to get it.

I tune my car with hp tuners "on the fly", so I've never dyno'd. I'll probably do the same after the swap. I could stop by force fed and have it dyno'd....I am pretty curious. I'll try and dyno it and post up. There's a guy here that dyno'd a 93pony cam, with midlengths and stock heads at 400/395. I'm thinking I should make some nice #'s with the addition of stage II heads 10.75:1 compression and longtubes.

How is smog in Scottsdale? MY friend just moved there and want's me to move. I heard they are pretty strict like CA also. Do they have the roller dyno sniffer, or just OBDII check?

Re: Tsp 224r
just the obdII scan, they dont do a sniff test or tailpipe emisions... i was just at pro dyno and they said they had 800hp camaros passing emissions with flying colors lol
so they arnt that hard
