These guys are probably right. You can get a '98 Z28 for under $8000. Under $6000 if you're willing to accept one with high miles (~150K).
I'd guess $4000-5000 for a motor, transmission, and all of the parts you'll need for the swap. If you're doing the labor yourself, I hope you have lots of time, lots of people to help you, and lots of good tools.

The only time it's worth it to do that is when you have a very good condition V6 F-body, and a wrecked one with a good engine (trans too if you want a manual) and can get it on salvage price.
Otherwise you're looking at around what 7k~ for the V6 car and $5k for a new engine? Then you have the cost, time and effort of getting it in there, or paying for someone else to do it. I got my camaro for $15,800 i think, so really it's better to just find one.
