V6 to V8 engine swap

V6 to V8 engine swap
I was wondering how much it would cost to do a complete swap from a V6 to V8, I know i'm going to need a new transmission and probably a new exhaust set-up, and definently a new computer. Just let me know what I need to do and how much it'll probably run me. Thanks.

Re: V6 to V8 engine swap
check the v6 section of this board, whole long sticky thread dedicated to motor swaps on v6s...
not sure if its everything but off hand...
-motor
-tranny
-k-member
-pcm
-engine harness
-fuel lines
-all sensors
-guages
-if you have an older v6, like 99 and older you will need to replace your 2 piece driveshaft if you still have one
-your gonna want lsd, most v6s came with open diffs, you cna either add one to your current rear end, or swap a v8 what in, brakes will work fine.
I think those are the main parts, and most everything else is interchangeable, but look into it, I don't know too much about it just browsed a few threads in the past.

you need what you listed and alot of little things...way to many to attempt to list in any reasonable list...
buy a donor car...they are readily available...that way you have it all

Jsut do some searches with the search function here, and over at www.firebirdv6.com
I'd say a dozen or so people have done it that posted about it, some did it dirt cheap some spent some money doing it.

Really look into it and price it out....
Expect to spend ~$500 more then you expect to pay. Might be easier to go the buy a new car route, if you are not attached to your car, might be cheaper to do the swap, if you catch a deal on parts.
I have heard of peopel doing the entire ls1 a4 tranny swap and only cost them $2-3k total.
But they had a connection or found some deals on parts.
If you want to research it more, check out the v6 section here, or check www.firebirdv6.com and do searches in gen tech, advance tech, etc...

I dont' know a heck of a lot about 4th-gens (I'm a third-gen guy) but if they're anything like 3rds, the V8s have a better suspension, better gearing, LSDs (I believe most of the V6's had peg-legs, which is no fun with a V8), better brakes (some of the 6's had drum brakes on the rear! :gasp: ), better trans, etc...so even if you do upgrade the engine (which would be a lot of time and money), it still wouldn't truly be as good as an LT1/LS1 car...
Of course, the upside is that you can write it off on insurance as a V6 and save some money
LT1 F-bodies are easily $5-6K these days and would dust that V6, plus you have an overall upgraded platform to work with, instead of not only upgrading the engine but the entire rest of the car...
